Crossovers divide the audio signal to the speakers. Basically, the highs to to the tweeters and the lows go to the woofers. The crossovers go between the amp and the speakers. Pretty simple.
are they needed to be hooked up for the speakers listed above?

the guy that put in my speakers and amp basically screwed up my shit to say the least so i am trying to figure things out and fix it.
could this be the reason the tweeter half of the components dont work?

here is a basic write up of what he screwed up....

I dont have any subs just wanted the amp(2 channel) to power the components in the front and the 6x9s in the back.
Now he has the amp wired to both sets but the rear 6x9s are completely overpowering and the front speakers are barely noticable and the tweeters aren't working at all. I have no way of adjusting the fade(he said because the amp is wired so i cant adjust fade...whatever...) so all of the sound seems to be coming from the back speakers only. Also, he never wired the antenna so the auto antenna doesn't work at the moment.
Yikes, sounds like you need to get your money back and take your car to a good shop. Without the crossovers, the tweeters will be the first to blow. You should run the components off of the 2 channel amp and just run the 6x9's off of the HU.
would that be better then getting a 4 channel amp with 1 channel to each?
No, but if you only have the money for a 2 channel right now, send the power to the front speakers until you can get that 4 channel.

this isn't fully a true statement. it depends on the type of x-over it is. whether it's passive or an active crossover
i do have the money right now to get the 4 channel and some new speakers but i need some suggestions on the direction i should go would be great.

fliegendaffe, i notice that in every thread you are doing whatever you can to show circuit up but in the process could you help me out a bit. what speakers and amp should i be looking at? rms ranges for the 6x9's and the 4 channel amp at 4 ohms would be appreciated. thanks

and as far as amps hows this???

because they were the only cdt non-component 6x9's on that website you had

and that won't be too bad
does that make a difference if it is the same brand?

IMO i think it's best to stay with the same brands. and i already commented on the amp
Are you looking to run 1 amp for your fronts and rears? If you are considering on replacing your rear 6x9's to something that is 4 ohm, then I would suggest this amp, just because your fronts are 90 watts RMS you said. I wouldn't want to send them MORE power than what they are capable of handling safely. Because sending roughly 75 watts RMS to your rear 6x9 are not a bad thing either. They will sound very nice with that amount of power given to them. Remember that they are not big subs. ;)

you aren't always necessarily sending 90-100 watts to a speaker. you can adjust this via the gain control.
