I got bored today, so decided to cover that big ass hole in the 00-02 front bumper with some fence type stuff we had laying in the shop. It doesn't look perfect, but I like it much better than nothing at all.

Only had a couple places to attach zip ties, but hopefully it will stay on. It is wedged in there pretty good.

How do you guys think it turned out?

WOW! I thought I was the only one! I yanked some from the people here doing our roofs in my complex. I have about 10-12 feet of it. I'm thinking of cutting it out and painting it black. How did you do it? What tools? Steps...

looks good except for that hole you can see in it. I would paint it to make it look better.

I took a rough measurement of the opening, and then cut a rectangle out in a piece of cardboard. Then, I just laid the cardboard on the material and cut out around it leaving an inch or so extra. I kept folding the edges over until it would just barely wedge in there. I had some shitty cutters, so it was a PITA. My knuckles are pretty banged up from it. If you have some good cutters it should be too bad. Just take your time with it. I really thought it wasn't going to work halfway through, but it came out better than I expected.

That's not a hole it's a zip-tie. I plan on taking it back off and painting it black, but for now I just want to see how it holds up. As you can tell from the first picture, the zip-tie isn't noticeable until within a couple feet.
I don't mean this in a bad way so don't get upset when I say that it looks to "ghetto"? :dunno: Me personally I would go ahead and take the bumber off and see a better view as to how you can mold it better. That way you will have a "perfect line" and blend alot better. I'm sure the fogs play a difficult part in the layout since mine was easy being an 03 but I'm sure with the quality work you try to emulate in your box builds, I'm confident that you could come up with something fantastic for the 00-02's. Keep up with your ideas though. It's great to see new inventions.

Yea, my initial plan was to bend it around the lip of the bumper, but that's easier said than done.
I've never removed the front bumper, but I have had plenty of time lately without anything to do, so I may just try that.
First thing, I got find an easier way to cut that fencing material or my knuckles are going to be bare.
I made my own mesh in a similar way
since the edges are sharp, I would highly suggest wrapping it in a plastic before you tear your paint up

I snapped a 4ft black tube of hard plastic (pool part) and cut all the way down with siccors
since its plastic it was still shaped circular
I just shoved the damn chicken fence in it. Holds tight - doesnt scratch

Did you scratch your bumper when you put those in? I remember one of my friends kinda scratched up his bumper when he was trying to put one in on his 3g. I think if you paint them black and your vents black I think it would stand out even more. But yeah anyways looks good, keep up the good work.

I bent over all the sharp points. There are a few spots where is was scratched a little bit, but nothing that is noticeable.
Black vents and grill are in the future. Along with black wheels with chrome lip hopefully.
