DB gauge install?

1721 Views 27 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  spdracr
the instructions for innovate's DB gauge say not to tap into the dimmer switch so i need to know which wire to tap... i'm thinking one of the wires coming off of the hedlight/turn signal lever but i don't know which one. i would use a multimeter but the car is not done yet so theres no battery and im not ready to give it power.

there are 8 wires on the connector for the headlight switch, which is the right one for when the low beams turn on?

or is there another wire i could tap?

gauge

is it digital powered all the time? if u need a power wire the fuse panel is to the side.. just fuse it and run a wire from there.. Also the cigarette lighter wire - u can tap that for an always on with ign... you also got the battery wire under the steering wheel for a last resort..
oh naw i got the power wire setup already i need a wire to tap into so the gauge lights up when i turn on the lights... and the install directions say in bold not to tap the dimmer switch because it will cause interference, they just had to make it difficult
if you tap the power wire to the fuse or ciggarete lighter the wideband will turn on when you turn the ignition, the wire for the headlights(dimmer wire) is optional, the wideband work perfect without it,just leave it disconnected
oh ok i remember reading it was optional... and the gauge is led lighted so i figured with the power wire hooked up it would be lit up. so if its not hooked up to the headlight wire does that mean its on all the time? or is it dim and when you turn on the headlights it gets brighter? or is it the other way around?
the dimmer wire is to make the wideband light brightest for better viewing during night time(at night is when you used the headlights, when you turn the headlights on,the gauge will get more bright),you shoulndt have no problem leaving the wire alone since the brightest of the wideband is pretty good during the day and night time and no the gauge will turn off as soon as you turn off the ignition
ok thanks for the help e-rep for you man i couldn't find a definate answer anywhere

i'm guessing you have the same gauge in your car, would you happen to have any pictures?
aww the dimmer wire.. his is bright all the time.. If u hook that wire it will get less bright when u turn the lights on like the radio.. U can see it fine in the daytime and night.. very nice gauge..
no problem bro,yup i have the same gauge, been using it for about two months already...i have pictures but the forum serve is still down and it wont let me upload the picture........just like my homeboy johngaland said its a pretty nice gauge and its bright all the time
tap it to the dimmer wire on the radio harness.
yup i tapped all of my gauge wires to the back of my radio harness
that what i wanted to do and have done in the pass but innovates directions say not to because it will cause interference with the reading and i definatly don't want that happening with my wideband. they say to only tap the headlight signal wire or a ground if your not going to use the dimming feature
bro i just sent you an email with the picture

the dimmer wire for the radio IS from the headlight circuit. they mean dont tap onto the dimmer switch, the switch that actually dims or brightens the interior lights.
bro i just sent you an email with the picture
can u send me the pics too ??

but hooking all the gauge wires behind the radio is ok ??
i just sent it
