The vehicles in the driveway faired better, though the rear floorboards were soaked in the Mustang and my sister's Altima.

The water got up past the center console, and the engine bay was almost completely submerged. I eventually began the process of stripping the interior and de-flooding the engine, as well as cleaning up all the connectors and fuse panels.

Unfortunately I didn't have the hindsight to add comprehensive coverage when I bought the car, considering my street hasn't flooded since Tropical Storm Allison back in 2001. So ultimately, I was on my own. I took the engine through the de-flooding procedure but I was ultimately unable to save it and the damage was done. It started and ran but the oil pressure light was intermittent, and it refused to start until the engine cooled down from operating temperature (classic case of a failing rotary engine), and the electronic power steering kept cutting in and out. After weighing in my options, I just decided to opt out of repairing the car and sold it to a repair shop that is supposedly turning it into a race car. It's a real shame considering the car only had 102k miles. Plus, I'm a firm believer of taking salvage/flood cars off the road because they're never really the same after being in a state of such disrepair. Yeah it sucks, but life goes on.

Also, the 97 Eclipse that I posted about in members rides was completely destroyed in the flood. I sold it to a friend that put a lot of work into it, ultimately for nothing.

sad to hear.. insurance coverage is always a gamble.. looking at the numbers when nothing is wrong, it seems like a no-brainer to only pay for liability when it just costs extra for a car that's not worth all that much.. but then when you loose that car, everything starts adding up real quick to almost make it worthwhile

It sucks because I learned with my new car that comprehensive coverage is only about $13 more a month with a $100 deductible.
