As some of you know i have a RIPP SDS modified into a Sebring engine bay. And swapped to the same engine as you guys. Only i run different sensors/manifolds/ecus. Since i dont get to use a BB or GB tuning is left to other methods (SMT6 or AFC and MSD 6BTM). So its interesting to see how it runs on your cars compared to mine.

So with that said,

What is your intake temps for those of you that are boosted without any type of cooling(intercooler/meth)? Cruising temp? Max temp?


and while your at it you can add in intake temps for cooled charges and what psi you run.

That's a good question, the only people that will know for sure are those who have a datalogger and that are blowing through their MAS. I don't have a guage in my car to measure intake temps since I'm sucking through mine.

i ordered some hvac temp guages a while ago to monitor intake temps but they never arrived.

Oh i didnt know you guys didnt have an intake temp sensor other than the MAS.

Yea i definitly need it from someone who is blowing through their MAS or has a sensor after the blower.

well you can spitball your inlet temp assuming you know your boost level and ambient temp...

you know what... its a pretty beefy equation, especially when you take into count the humidity... lemme toss it into a php script. gimmie a few.

yea i am more interested in actual numbers...

but if you got the equation that would be cool too..... i would assume some of the heat has to do with the heatsoak. SC being mounted to the heads and next to the coolant pipes.. above the exhaust manifolds. Many things.

But when i drive at night my temps arent that much lower.

I cant believe most of you guys dont datalogg. That is just plain scary.

well you can spitball it like this

(ambient temp / ambient pressure = boosted temp / manifold pressure)

ambient pressure = 14.5psi minus .5 psi for every 1000 feet above zero
manifold pressure = ambient pressure + boost
ambient temp = duh

you can divide that by the compressor efficency to get a more accurate number

basically it spits out
100 degrees in and 10 psi boost = 169 degrees at 100%

or you can add 7 degrees per psi of boost, which is throughly inaccurate but a ballpark.

i really want to know what kind of intake temps they experience during cruising and boost.

Good luck with that, most people barely even know what "OBD-2" stands for much less tune their own cars or care to learn about them.

well i found some info from 2003 from RIPP about their intake temps...


they claimed that at 5psi they were seeing 187 degrees and 9psi 287

that is insane for the 9psi...

i dont quite understand why in a 4psi of difference it would raise 100 degrees

using any calculation from Combustibles equations i cant figure how?

I live in texas.. its 90 today with 50% humidity today.

The act of merely compressing air heats it up. It could be that going into 7~8psi is the threshold for keeping down the intake temps that necessitates a requirement for intercooling your boost rates.

yea i hear ya...

i just think that if the intake temps are 187 at 5psi.. then at 0 psi you are looking at 145. when going into boost and the meth starts spray the temps will drop alot.

but on an intercooled setup you are looking at like 10-20 degrees over ambient temp... so that puts you at like 100 degree intake temp.. and whatever it will rise during boost.

so then it is safe to say they both work equally for temp drop... but you might get better gas mileage with the high intake temps? cleaner burn?
