Looking at a bike

2579 Views 49 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  Oscardms
I am currently looking at an 06 kawasaki Ninja 250. They want 2500 for it and I looked it up, the MSRP was only 3k. So I figure I could probably talk them down to almost 2. Any one have any input on the bike? reasons why i shouldn't get it?

THANKS FOR THE HELP :bigthumb::bigthumb::hspin::hspin::hspin:

And the fact that its a 250.

You will get bored with it quick.

The bare minimum I would go is a 500.

Assuming he already took the msf course, the price for the bike is good, rather than trying to beat them down on price, which is something harder to flex, ask them drop prices on or add free equipment.
I haven't taken the course yet, and I would be buying from some guy, not from a dealership or any kind.
Also, just a few questions.
What are the disadvantages of it being carburated(sp?)
And I am just learning so thats why i would be going with the 250.
Maybe response compared to fuel infected. Cold starts and messing with a choke all the time. Other than that, not much.

How tough would it be do deal with the chokes and everything. I mean, we have a 68 chevy that I have to drive every once in a while but I really never have to mess with the choke on that?

its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, instead of just hitting start and going, you need to apply choke, start it, take off, then after its warmed up some take off the choke. well you dont always need 100% choke, so dependant on weather you'll need less or more choke day to day. its not hard to figure out and only is a problem in the cold. yea, still need to choke on summer days but not as much.
Oh, so overall if I could talk it down to around 2200 cash then it would be a pretty good buy for a starter bike?
this bike is probably the best starter bike out there...if u can get it for 2200 i would consider it a steal...dont even worry about it being carburated, two of my buddies have carburated bikes and they just have to adjust the choke (very easy to get used to). My first bike (if i ever get one) will be a 250 ninja because they are such a good starter bike. the 250 ninjas are the most popular type of "rocket" out there today. hope you get it and good luck with it

Thanks. I think I am gonna go through with it then. erep everyone :)
Go with the ninja to learn on blade.....although the guy saying the 250 is a rocket made me laugh. Guess thats because I took my road test on a 1100 cbr.
I am going to look at the bike today. Anything I should look for in particular. He told me he just had 2 kids so he hasn't had much of a chance to ride it:dunno:
There are others on the board that should be able to help you out better. Just check back tonight.
How much do you weigh? Why do you want a 250 vs something around the 600 range? Is it because of fuel economy or the fact that you are a beginner? Are you an easy rider and want the bike just for commuting?

My wife started on one and she hates it. The power is real weak. Don't plan on taking it on the freeways. I constantly have to check her oil because it keeps getting sucked into the airbox. A lot of guys say this happens because at the higher RPS needed to take it to the fwy's, it creates a suction into the airbox and then gets drained through the overflow tube. Get a gsf 500 or an sv650s.
My two main reasons for getting this bike would be that I am new and don't want anything too big, and it's cheap. I really don't have the money for a super nice bike and I don't want to take out another loan (car and school is enough along with my fuckin credit cards)

also, right now I would just be using it to get to work and back(down the street) until I get better and want something bigger.
