It was the best of times, it was the worst of times – it was 2007. Topping the sales figures for the year that almost was are mainly servile vehicles, while the more ostentatious, less useful cars round out the bottom-feeder roster. Family cars at the top and niche cars in the basement doesn't tell the entire story, though.

Yes, there are some cars that you expect would sell in small volumes. Sporty things like the Porsche Boxster, Vette-in-drag Caddy XLR, blob-tacular Lexus SC430, and Audi A8/S8 über-sedan all sold in expected tiny numbers for such specialized machinery. Rounding out the nadir of automotive sales, you'll find nearly every Jaguar model, and some dead-on-the-vine products like the Mazda B-series pickups (Ford Ranger) and Isuzu Ascender (Chevy Trailblazer).

Sales champs reflect that Americans use vehicles mainly for working and carting around our families. All three domestic pickup trucks sold in big numbers, with the F-Series and Silverado finishing 1-2. Solid, stolid sedans fill out the bulk of slots in the top 10. Camry, Accord, Impala, Altima, they're all there. It sounds like our morning commute. The Matrix, Civic, and CR-V occupy the rest of the spots, indicating that while we like to carry people and stuff, we're also concerned with efficiency.

2008 is shaping up to be an exciting year of midsize sedan and CUV battles, so what do you think? Next year, will we see the Malibu, Journey, and Accord making big enough splashes to spur sales numbers? Will Jaguar sales continue to circle the bowl, or will word of new ownership and the XF bring new growl back to the cat?

Even though Ford puts a lot of love into the F-series truck and sells a lot to it's customers in the southern parts of the US, I personally do NOT like it.

Now the Toyota Matrix, maybe a car, I'll consider to get if I had an significant other.

How does the Chevy Impala rank so high? I see those only ever once in awhile here in Texas whereas all the other cars on that list seem representative of the numbers I see around here. Fleet and rental sales, I presume?

There are a lot Impalas up North, it's like every other car here is an Chevy Impala, Pontiac Gran Prix, Dodge Magnum, or Chrysler 300C, so yea, those cars sell pretty quick.

I like the F-series a lot, actually. Why do you say it sells a lot to "people in the south"?

jaguar :noplease:
Say what you will, but I would rock an XK in a heartbeat. God damn that's a good looking car. The XF is a pretty stunning sedan, too.

No offense to any southerners, but I'm talking about the fellow Texicans....the F series has known to have been an southern truck. Just like the Impala/Caprice (90-96ish dates maybe off) is known to be an northern car.

I'll attest to that about the Ford F-series. Domestic truck sales down here in Texas are ridiculous. Every 1 out of 3 vehicles (maybe more) is either a truck or an SUV. If you take shitbox economy cars out of the equation, probably more than half.

Hands down the nicest convertible I have ever driven. Had one for about 3 weeks as a demo. Quietest convert also. With the top up, it was as quiet as sedan I have driven

We have a lot of impalas here in FL b/c of rental cars and all the old people. The paticular town I live in has lots of Ford F-150's and other trucks just b/c. I live in a suburban area and people w/ garages in gated communities get trucks b/c they think trucks are so great :uh: Its really some of the stupidest shit you've ever seen people here buy trucks that never pull a boat don't have friends to help move and have covers on the bed. They use like it's a small.
