Neutral light blinking while in drive please help!

Last night I was driving home and I noticed that the neutral light was blinking while in drive. The car was driving very slow but I was still going to try to make it home. Next the SES light came on and then it started smoking out of the front right of the car. I pulled into the nearest gas station and there was a burning smell coming from somewhere under the hood.
My dad came and looked at it he couldn't find anything. So we started it up ( it's starts perfectly fine) but it does not move in drive or reverse at all, even if I rev up to 2 or 3 thousand rpm. If anyone knows what this problem is please let me know. I drive a 2003 eclipse GT 6cyl.
Thank you

Your PCM computer has locked your transmission into "Limp Home" mode. If the car detects a transmission fault it puts the car into limp mode not allowing it to go past second just so you can get it home or to the shop. If it started smoking it's likely your transmission fluid was old/dirty/at a improper level possibly causing it to overheat the transmission. Any codes being spit out from the diagnostic port?

Trans sounds like it's toast, replace or rebuild.
It could just be simple solenoid replacement... it's a long shot and one can dream. Lol. I'd look at the fluid to get an idea of how bad it was, and get a scan tool to read any codes the engine is sending out. It should tell you a pretty specific point of interest when it comes to transmission codesZ

Trans needs service, fluid change at very least
Fast binking is fluid overheating. Slower blinking is one of the things below. It's defintely worth trying a fluid change first as Sisyphus58 recommended.

I have a 04 eclipse spyder gt I was at a red light and when i pushed on the gas to go my car wouldnt move at all my motor would rav up when i pushed the gas my Neutral symbol started flashing on my dash I tried to change gears in automatic and stick mode and it would do nothing. I have had two people who claim they knew what they were doing try to fix it but $800 dollars later my car is still just sitting there and I still don't even know whats wrong with it. Can someone please help
Welcome to the site.
You will need a friend to do this. Place the car in park...hold your foot on the brake pedal...have your friend watch the shift linkage on the top part of the transmission as you shift gears???

If the N light is flashing, it's something more involved than the linkage. Best case is the fluid is low or bad, but that's likely the first thing the previous mechanics would have replaced.

I'd suggest starting a new thread just for your problem with lots of detail like what's been done to try to fix it, if/when the fluid has been changed, codes that were set, etc.
