Hello my name is Jon Eardley and I just wanted to introduce myself, I'm new here. I guess I can start off by saying that the reason I bought these two cars is because for one I love these cars I just drove in the first eagle talon that ever came off the assembly line with my father my dad James Eardley held a position of quality control for diamond star Mitsubishi motor plant in Bloomington Illinois we were living at Stanford in the time the town of approximately 800 people out in the middle of corn fields there's nothing much to do there. Anyways I I wanted something to remind me of my father and both of these cars has his name stamped on them a third generation eclipse in a 4th generation eclipse third generation is a GTS spider the 4th gen is a GS 2.4 l 5-speed manual since I bought the first one I was having some problems with it I dumped about 3,000 into it fixes suspension the shocks the control arms brake lines brakes I mean I done a lot of work fixing it up not only did I have to repair everything I trade it my 2007 Honda Civic which was meant had 280,000 miles on it though I love that car as well anyways I have transmission related problems with both cars I am now currently on social security disability and I could use some help with these cars the third generation eclipse is a 3.0 l V6 automatic transcriptronic transmission and it's been stuck in neutral safety mode for about a year now I've been trying to do everything and anything with it I've taken it to three different shops that won't even look at it every time they're in the shop they just sat there for one place it was there for a month so I just got tired of taking the shops so I kept trying to do stuff on my own I just don't know what I'm doing though however I come to the conclusion that it's a combination of the front transmission oil pump and the torque converter that's what I no for certain on the 4th gen eclipse GS which is a 2.4 l 5 speed manual transmission come to find out the inner shaft bearings are toast and 4th gear synchronizers are gone I've looked everywhere for these two transmissions and I'm at a point now where I'm just about to give up I don't know what to do anymore I've searched and searched and searched and searched can anybody help me. I'm in Tampa Florida if anybody's interested I'm willing to give one of these cars to anyone that will completely fix the other one if that sounds good to anyone hit me up let me know I'm out of money I don't have anything to spend on these cars anymore and I need a car that works I'm willing to give up one car to completely fix the other car. If that sounds good to somebody hit me up and we'll go over the details.

Welcome Jon. I can't help you much with your automatic, as mine is a 5-speed. I am also a retiree and have just kept the Eclipse I was driving to work. Nice to have a convertible to drive around in. I refuse to buy new cars these days, with the stupid prices they are asking. I'll keep my money for other pursuits. ...J.D.

Jon, welcome to the group and I really hope you get one or both of the cars running. I think it's awesome that your dad was part of the production, and these cars are part of his work. Do you have a priority which one you'd like to concentrate on restoring?

If you can do your own work, a replacement auto transmission is very doable on a budget. There are part-outs on the facebook groups all the time and I'll bet you could get a used auto transmission cheap if you can drive to pick it up. The manual transmissions are harder to find, but they come up from time to time. Even if you can't find someone to take one car as payment for fixing the other, you might consider parting out one to finance the restoration of the other.

I agree with @jelazar...part out one to fix the other. Your proposal is creative, but perhaps too risky...you could end up with no working car at all if whoever fixing one does a shoddy job that doesn't last and you've already signed over the title to the other. Unfortunately, parting out one of the cars will take time to get the cash needed to fix the other, then decide whether to get it fixed by a shop under warranty, or diy.

I imagine this will not be an easy choice...
and being in New York, I can't be much help to you. I personally would be inclined to keep the 3g, for numerous reasons.

Anyway, welcome to Club3G!!!

And bro that V6 it has been very well maintained the motor is freaking powerful no leaks nothing that thing is ready to go
The motor's all stock there's nothing extra added to it or upgrades but it's still got a lot of power just needs a torque converter in a front oil pump for the transmission or maybe just new gears for the oil pump in the transmission I don't know I haven't pulled it apart yet

Before going any further, check the strut towers on the 3G for rust...they can be a deal breaker.
As you probably know, the 3G is known for tranny problems, esp gears and a noisy TOB.
