Alright, I know many of the SDS owners will have the same issue. BELT SLIP! It has been a known demon with the SDS system for the last few years the system has been out. Nothing really fixed it. Like the RIPP tensioner system, which does not really work as well as they state it does.
So I am working with Reichard racing to develop new pulley's for the SDS system. I am first going to develop the smaller pulley that RIPP makes or the Stage 2 pulley size. Then go on and develop the stage 1 pulley. Both will be available in the Ultra Grip configuration.
Images thanks to Reichard Racing. (These are just example pulley's)
HOW THEY WORK
Slits and holes provide extra traction for the belt. They allow the air that gets trapped under the belt to escape, thus preventing a cushion of air from building under the belt, which causes the belt to lift away from the pulley and slip. As well as the slits provide some extra "bite" for the belt to grab into.
Some Information:
Pricing: Should be less than $160 per pulley.
Fully Balanced
Aluminum Body 6061-T
Pro's- Eliminate most belt slip issues.
Con's- Will lower the lifetime of belt, expect no more than 20k per belt.
Time frame: Expect somewhere Mid-Summer or earlier.
Request: If anyone is willing to send me their Stage 1 pulley for R&D purposes, I will supply them with a FREE Stage 2 Pulley (Reichard Ultra Grip) one. Plus the return of the Stage 1 pulley to original owner.
Right now the pulley is being developed once I get the first one in I will test it and see the difference on the system and monitor belt slip via datalogging. If these work as promised, I will need some volunteers to test the new pulley's and provide me pre and post data. Set of 2-3 volunteers will be needed, pulley's will be 50% off to them.
Volunteer List:
1. ahspimp023
2. sroufe7
3.
Stay tuned. I will do my best to bring them in at a low cost.
RIPP PULLEY SIZING INFO
Bigger Shaft Pulley / Stock Crank Pulley = Stage 1 (5-7psi)
Small Shaft Pulley / Stock Crank Pulley = Stage 2 (9-11psi)
Bigger Shaft Pulley + Overdrive Aluminum Crank Pulley = Stage 2.5 (12-14psi)
Small Shaft Pulley + Overdrive Aluminum Crank Pulley = Stage 3 (16-18psi)
Small Shaft Pulley + Unorthodox Overdrive Aluminum Crank Pulley = Stage 3.5 (21psi)
