I was driving down the interstate heading to a meet when my service engine light came on. I had my ODBII reader in my car so when i got to the meet i hooked it up and came with a p0300 aka random/multiple misfire. I was reading the threads on here every seems to have power loss and what not but i didnt have power loss or car does run weird at all so ome told me my cat may be bad. Only reason im askin i because i didnt have the power loss every one else is haveing any ideas or suggestions?

Since your a 03 spyder theres a good chance that you need a ecu software update. It should be free from your local dealership.
i think i read that our cars had problems with high speed misfires, and that the ecu flash will fix that issue.....but im not positive.
many say its realated with ur tune up for example changing the wires, plugs, cap and rotor.

That is exactly what his problem is. He has a misfiring cylinder due to either a bad spark plug, bad wire, bad distrib rotor or cap, OR a bad spark plug tube seal which is allowing oil onto a spark plug.

1) Remove intake manifold.
2) Remove and inspect plugs, replace as needed.
3) Check each plug tube for oil. If found remove valve cover and replace all 3 tube seals for that bank ($2/ea).
*I suggest replacing the valve cover gasket and manifold gasket at this time.
4) If no oil is found and sparks are good then inspect the distrib rotor and cap. Replace if needed.
5) If no problem has been found yet then inspect your wires and see if they are working ok. If not replace them.

99% of the time a P0300 is related to one of the above items. I have had 3 different P0300 codes (I get it like once a year LOL). Each time it was due to a different part being worn out (plug seals then plugs then distrib rotor).

If this was due to a recall/new flash being needed then I'd think this problem would have shown up long long ago. And I don't see how the hell this could ever be exhaust/cat related. You probably didn't feel the loss in power because it was a minor/quick misfire and you were already cruising at highway speeds instead of accellerating from a lower speed. If that was the only misfire that you got on that trip then I would clear the code and just wait to see if it comes back. Obvioulsy it is not a critical thing as you hardly noticed the misfire :yesway: If the code comes back then get some gaskets, seals, sparks, etc on order or take it in for service.

I do remember seeing a recall related to certain year cars regarding a spurious P0300 code that was fixed via an ECU flash. Yours may be affected. If yours is one of the affected cars, iceman is right. You just need to get the flash free from the dealership.
I agree but figured the chances of an 03 making it to 08 without visiting a Mitsu service shop would be slim to nil. I thought the dealer was supposed to take care of ALL recalls for every Mitsu brought into their shop, without being asked to do so :dunno:
o erased to code today and been riding around fr about 3 hours now code hasnt came back yet im order ne plug wires rotor and cap any way cuz it only gonna cost me 120 but i wont change till the code come back.

Have you ever heard of a dealership doing free work they weren't asked to do? I sure haven't -- except in Japan where cars with a certain defect were killing people and they were trying to cover it up.

I haven't heard of it but I saw in a dealer/tech printout that checking/flashing was part of that procedure :dunno: You have a good point though. He should look into that. They'll prolly charge him a diag fee if he doesn't need it though... those bastards!
