10 charged in Raleigh street-racing sting

Posted: 19 minutes ago

Raleigh, N.C. — Ten people were arrested over the weekend in a street-racing bust, and more arrests are expected, authorities said Monday.

Law enforcement authorities seized six vehicles in the sting, the result of a three-week investigation in drag racing and street racing on and around Capital Boulevard and Interstate 540 in Raleigh.

The suspects face more than 40 charges, including careless and reckless driving, speeding, prearranged racing, modification of vehicles for the purpose of speeding and driving without an operator's license.

Authorities said the alleged racing has been going on for years and recently received numerous complaints about it.

The operation was a combined effort by several local law enforcement agencies, including the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Raleigh Police Department, Wake County Sheriff's Office, Division of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of License and Theft and North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division of the state Crime Control and Public Safety.

*FYI, that photo is not of the cars in question... It was taken Sept-07 but was included in the WRAL story :dunno:

 :yesway: Keep it on the track! I think a little :jailbait: is in order to ensure these fools learn their lesson. Jesus, there are FAR better places for something like this han I-540 and Capital Blvd. Those are probably the 2 busiest roads in all of Central NC.

The one thing that sands out to me about this story is the charge of "modification of vehicles for the purpose of speeding". I hope that is something that requires physical evidece or intent... if not I'm guessing I could catch that charge even if I wasn't racing, simply because my engine is no longer stock :(

Out of all the places that I have been in the world, NC has the most street races that I have ever seen. (serious)

I'm suprised! I would think FL or CA would be the worst. I know Tampa and Jacksonville were pretty bad when I lived there years ago.

I can only recall 2 drivers REALLY trying to race me here in NC. One was an SRT/Neon that revved while doing a :ghey2: flyby and the other was a young girl in a 2G. The 2G pulled along side me at a light and revved + honked. I laughed but when the light turned I said fuck it and floored it. She had half a length on me by the time we got through the light and then I heard the nastiest grinding and a snapping metal sound. She immediately pulled over with an obvious drivetrain issue, refusing to make eye contact with me  Anyway, I don't consider that a race as I never got above 25-30mph.

I'm glad to see the authorities cracking down on racers. I just hope they stay focused on racers and not speeders as I have a bit of a lead foot :scared:
Bikers are starting to become the same way (not all bikers), due to the obvious fuel situation a lot of people are buying bikes and racing them up and down the back roads. WTF
yea man, it goes down every weekend baby. Mainly friday and saturday its always Motorcycles, cars of almost every kind on capital racing. We usually meet up around 10pm. Last weekend my friend got pulled over by an undercover officer in a integra. I never race i just chill and look at all the car modifications.
All of us guys from NC should meet up some time and just chill. I was thinking maybe somewhere in chapell hill and have a few drinks.

Now that I think about it I have had 2 Mustangs in Jacksonville try to race me. They were obviously a couple drunk GIs looking for trouble though. I had my wife, a boxer, a doberman, and about 200lbs of shit in the trunk so I wasn't trying to be a part of that. I was suprised at how aggressive they were trying to egg me on. Cut us off several times, slammed on the brakes, did flybys, etc. The 2nd one finally got the hint we were not interested when wifey pulled the M1911 out from under her seat and show it to him. :noplease: I figured either he didn't like imports or had an issue with the Ranger Batt sticker in my window. Not sure what else it could have been :dunno:

We drive up Hwy24 all the time on the way to OBX. Heading back through there in a couple weeks too :) We typically stay @ my parents in Carteret.

It was probably a double whammy...The Ranger batt and the import car.

Sad that our government would let/make kids like that actually carry weapons... :( Hopefully this latest war has caused them to grow up a bit.

That's because Marines and Army kids act like dumbfucks. Before anyone gets offended or pissed off, I reserve the right to say that about our beloved young service members, as I'm a Veteran myself from 98-02. USMC, Sgt. :)

Yeaaaah! Doubt it.

True, but most of us are in our teens, no excuse...just sayin.

BOOT! J/K!

Based on the video of the Marine throwing a puppy off a cliff in Iraq I'm guessing you are correct :(

FWIW, I'm sure we all know there are good and bad apples in EVERY bunch, regardless of military branch, location, age, rank, etc.

God knows I have known some REAL shitbags all the way up to the Lt Col level.

Definitely not an excuse. As I see it, if you're responsible enough to defend the nation and hold a weapon, then there is a level of responsibility that goes with it. Hence why the punishments are so severe if these dumbshits were to do the same actions on base.
