Rear Strut Mount Bolt?

2154 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Jahrjahr
I picked up a '01 GT, the front struts were recently replaced, but not the rears. Well, I found out why!
I dug in to replace them, and 18 years of rust has me defeated. First, the bolt that holds the strut snapped, then, I had to cut the strut off. Well, in doing so, the strut mount in the knuckle took a beating.
I'm stuck now because I can't find a replacement for it, and I was wondering if anyone here has a part number, or can point me in the right direction.

Thank you!

That's what I'm finding out. I had to brush up on my searching skills. I have seen just the pin pop up from time to time, but it was years ago. I'm really dreading having to buy the whole knuckle just for that pin.
The part that the strut sits on is screwed into the knuckle assembly. It can be removed with a 32mm socket IIRC. I'm trying to find a picture of it, but can't find one. I don't think that it available separate. Do you have a picture on how bad it is?
I found out that it's not available separately, so I had to order a knuckle. I ordered two in fact, just in case the other one wound up the same way. I replaced the passenger side knuckle and was able to get the strut installed. It was a PITA also, everything is rusty on an 18-year-old car.
The driver's side went much smoother! I cut the strut off, used a propane torch for heat, then cut a notch on the inner sleeve from the strut. I then used my air hammer to break it loose and remove it. Once I did that off, it came off the stud easily.
So now, I have a spare knuckle :)
