ok, I just replaced my timing belt, tensioner, pump, etc. got it all put together, it started beautifully, now I've got a horrible clatter. it goes away at about 1500 rpm. I ran it for 2 or 3 minutes, but got worried, so I shut it down. I did some searching here, I found a few references, but no definitive resolutions. anyone got some experience with this?

Thanks
Pat.

You probably just have collapsed lifters. Let it warm up, then keep the engine revved up tp around 3k RPM to pump up the lifters again. Shouldn't take very long.

just recently did mine and had the same problem, i fixed it by hitting 5000 rpm twice down the road, parked it & didn't touch it till next day, daniel's method could work as well just keep the revv high and see how it goes, if this doesn't work order an original mitsubishi oil filter and put it on the next oil change (advice from other members).
