Spun bearing or oil pump?

well, i have a thread over here: WOT oil pressure, but id like some more input as to what might have died on my 6g72. I had the oil sender blow off the block at the track and thought i shut it down fast enough. Lost about 4 out of 5 quarts of oil before i shut down. Finally got a new sensor and put oil in it but now i have an obscure irregular sound from the bottom end. it doesnt seem to be RPM dependent so i dont have a clue what it is. it still runs mostly ok so...

thanks in advance :)

what puzzles me is when i revved it, it went away and took a couple seconds to come back.
non-rpm dependent, semi-regular clink/ca-chunk, goes away (AFAICT) when revved, returns at idle

im almost tempted to take the car around the block and see if it fixes itself or if drivability has suffered
I'm thinking your bearings got spun. I would check at least 2 rod bearings and see how they look; If those are damaged you can bet on having to replace almost all of them and maybe getting your crank resurfaced.
i figured as much. im thinking the slight crank pully wobble could be from a spun main as well...

although someone mentioned a thrust bearing, think that could cause the clunk and wobble?

1.Yes, if one is bad it could literally mean all are bad. I'm thinking the noise problem is coming from a journal on the crank that got welded with a bearing, but that could be a small part in a larger problem.

2. Yes, and no in a way. If a thrust bearing got damaged enough it could cause similar problems, possibly even the same noise you are hearing, but once again that would be a small part in a bigger problem. When you get a chance drop your oil pan and take a look, and maybe swish a magnet around the bottom to see what you find. Hopefully it's not copper colored, and hopefully the problem isn't as bad as the noise it's making.
