I'm gonna use a computer analogy that might be relevant to this discussion. Sometime around 1991, I bought my first computer. Over the following years, I started upgrading it by buying "better" and "faster" parts, replacing the original parts. Of course, I ran into some compatibility issues along the way, and consequently within five years, there was nothing left of the original computer, every single part had been upgraded. It was now a completely different computer.

My point being that yes, it is possible to turn a 3G into anything you want, but can you rightly claim it to still be a 3G in its final form???
I'd say yes.

Unless you're concerned with micro records, who cares? A person grows right along side the car he/she builds. Investing the time, work, money, mental processing power, learning and developing the skills and capabilities required to take something in idea form and construct it in the real world. These have real life impacts, other people's opinoins don't.

Little update on the car as of 3/16/23
Car has been down for about week and some days. The H1E decided to give out during one of the pulls.
Thinking about some productive things I could do as the car sits.

Current plan is to source another 60mm turbo. Looking towards a 60mm HX40 this time instead of another H1E. I like the idea of having cool upgrade options. A Turbolabs 67 wheel would be a cool little upgrade in the future but realistically a 64 would probably be the most ideal for the current set up.

H1x turbos have a very weak, 270* thrust collar and they never live long at high boost.

HX turbos are better but good luck finding the right performance variant from a recycler. A 60/60 HX40/35 hybrid would work great but a Borg Warner SXE would be best if you're going to spend proper money. The 67mm TL turbo is going to light very slowly on your setup.

I spoke with Justin whitesell and he pretty much said the same thing, he sells/rebuilds Hx40s and all for a pretty good price, but I'm not sure if I want to go borg warner this time around. I've been looking at their turbos and they seem pretty good. Haven't talked to anyone that's personally ran one though.

Funny that you mention the hybrid. I just took the H1E 60mm compressor and put it on my old H1c I had lying around. Smaller exhaust housing and it shared the same compressor backing plate as the 1E,, i'm a bit scared to run it though, don't think it's balanced anymore.

That's a hand grenade now if it wasn't balanced. Besides, if you already blew up 1 H1 I don't know why you'd run another. You will get the same result, likely even more quickly since you'll run higher drive pressures with the smaller turbine.

I've work with Justin Whitesell's stuff for years. If you Borg Warner is too rich for your blood you might as well ask him what he recommends for whatever budget you do have. Nothing quality will be cheaper than what he has to offer.
