Are you sure the new belt is the correct size? Compare the old belt and the new belt side by side. If the car is your DD and you need to get it running, reuse the old belt until you figure it out.

Try routing the belt over the alternator pulley BEFORE mounting the alternator. Then use a prybar to position the alternator into place to mount the bolts.
Alternately, try checking out YouTube videos to see if you are doing something wrong regarding the tensioner.
Is the tensioner pulley moving at all when you loosen the bolt?

That's a good point. You have to loosen two bolts.

Ahh yes, I remember when I was having trouble getting those off and I needed a smaller mini torque wrench to get that one off lol. That was fun times last year on my White GT.

Just when putting tension on the belt, only put enough to where you can twist the belt 90 degrees with a moderate amount of tension. Too much tension and alternator pulley/bearing will prematurely fail.

Ok so I did that now my issue is when I go to start it up like first thing in the morning I have to keep my foot on the gas for a minute at about 1500 rpm .If not it will die when I take my foot off if I'm running the heater and come to a stoplight it will drop to 500 rpm or less when my foot hits the brakes and about half the time will die . Could this be caused by the egrsystem ? I'm stumped.

Yup I ended up getting r done after an epic battle .
Don't quote me, but mine does what you talked about in your last comment, minus actually dying. I'll pull up at a light, it'll sputter and drop RPM by about half, and then go back up to its regular idle. The reason why I'm telling you this is because I'm in the process of fixing a similar issue I have a trouble code for, I'm just struggling financially as it is and this on top of it is not helping. Anyways, I wish you the BESTEST luck and hope you get 'er goin right again. 😊
