I had the timing belt replaced at a shop about 6 months ago and then one morning the engine cranked but would not turn over. I thought it was the distributor cap or the fuel pump but when I had it towed back to the shop the tensioner on the timing belt had failed. The shop informed me there was no valve damage. Has anyone else experienced this on a 2001 Eclipse GT? I thought with an interference engine valve damage was a certainty.

much more of a certainty if the car is running when the tensioner or belt fails. Apparently, your tensioner failed while the car was off.
