alright i need the help of the wonderful club3g members again. so ive made a thread already about the noise im getting from my transmission has been making and now ive decided to go ahead and rebuild it myself. so i was wondering if anyone knows of a website that sells parts or rebuilds for the manual transmission. or do i HAVE to go and bend over for the stealerships? has anyone even done this before?

I tried... ended up being a goatfuck. The dealership had a hell of time figuring out the part #s for the shims I needed, ordered the wrong ones, etc. I ended up having to take it to a tranny shop (AAMCO) who took 3 months to get the car back to me and it still wasn't right. I grind reverse almost everytime I use it. I'm amazed there are any teeth still left on the gear :angryazn: If I could go back and do it all over again I would just buy a new/er tranny :(
Yea your better off buying a used tranny from a junkyard.
ok but the only problem with that is that i live in alaska so its not like 5spd v6 eclipses are plentiful...and theres pretty much none in any junkyard around here and i live outside the only actual city up here!
yeah see that tranny is a good price till u get to the point that its in florida and im on the OTHER side of the US. i actually finally found the sound is coming from the differential side gears. ALSO im highly mechanically inclined since cars are my career so its not like im completely in the dark about tearing this thing down. so im thinking all i need is the differential and the soft parts like syncros...who knows maybe i can find a place to cryo treat all my gears huh? but yeah if worse comes to worse i might have to suck it up and just get a good used one i guess. but ive heard rumors that the 2000 GT can only use a tranny from a 2000? is that true? anyone know FOR SURE? cuase i dont want "well i heard" i need facts please

Man its not really the ability of being able to do it or not. A rebuilt transmission will NEVER be the same as an original. That is why your better off going with a used good condition transmission.

Also about the shipping, do you not see where it says $150 anywhere in the US? Last I heard Alaska was part of the US
wow...if you think they REALLY mean anywhere in the US you should be informed that they are usually referring to the 48 CONTIGUOUS states which obviously excludes Alaska and Hawaii! i been here for 15 years i kinda know how these things work

lol people take anywhere in the US to literally. Read the fine print. :fever:

I found a trans that weighs more I would think and calculated the shipping.
To your zip it was $365
To my Zip (Texas) It was $182

So you pay double. It is still within reach.
i guess...but anyone about the magical 2000 trans thats gotta be the same year or is that just rumors and any trans will work from a v6 3g?
Personally I am uaware of any differences. I thought there was only 1 manual tranny type for the 6G72 :dunno:

AAMCO blows Goat Nuts!!! They were banned for the state of Minnesota for 10 yrs because there business practices. I found this out after they stole $300bucks from me!

Sorry for pooping in your thread.

Lol the local AAMCO here does not even do manual tranny rebuilds.
FWIW, I tried installing my LSD and this was the 1st time I had ever even seen the inside of a tranny. I followed the FSM and the How To and I still had trouble. I think my problem was with removing the bearing races from the housings (in order to place & crush the solder to get your required shim thickness.) I kept scratching the aluminum housings where the race were seated and found the races nearly impossible to remove. All of that was done right at the last step before you start putting it all back together for engine mounting. Everything up to that point was CAKE. The How To. the c3g community, and the FSM made things crazy simple.

What I learned from my nightmare "rebuild" was that whichever route you take (DIY, shop, AAMCO-style, brand new) just make sure that only ONE place/person/etc does the job/s. If not they can all play the blame game and make any warranties/promises void (or at least put up a REAL fight now to fix/pay you if anything goes wrong.) I would have saved $500-1K by only using one mechanic/shop. Based on my experience I have to suggest you find apro to do all the work or at minimum have a tranny specialist come help when its time for the internals. I hope it all goes smooth whichever way you go :yesway:

BTW, got a link to your tranny noise thread? possibly just the TOB (easy/cheap fix)?

yeah see i thought it could be the throw out bearing but it just cant be that simple cause the sound occurs no matter what..as long as the wheels are spinning, in any gear, and foot off the gas. but now its getting a bit worse cause under light load u can just barely hear the rattleing being intermittent
how many miles on that diff cszink?? and how much do u want for it?
