bad news can turn into good news meaning rebuild with forged pistons

Right on! It would be the next step in my car's evolution. I've done so many WOT runs thus far. No ill effect thus far.

Every one also needs to recall jbasol's car: 200,000+ miles, twin turbo, 15 psi, and stock pistons. The only issue he had was when the harmonic dampener broke. It is still running strong.

Turn the boost up then. Well atleast to 11psi and we can go run.
Is that your peak boost (11 psi)? I don't think I can get up to that level without a pulley change. The boost cooler is known to change the density of the air where it may give me more.

Plus you have an LSD. I'm going to need one soon. If everything holds up, that may be my winter upgrade.

 I thought he upgraded when he blew his other one. Either way, I know the inherent advantage a turbo has over a SC at the same boost level... Randy, did you ever get dynoed?

The car is hard enough to launch n/a, let alone with some sort of FI. Has anyone got a sub 2.0 seconds on the 60'?

Now, she's out...

Well, either Friday the 13th or Randy's bad Ju-Ju got me. lol. Not a blown engine, but my SDS belt shredded, got caught up in the power steering belt at the crank, and caused the timing belt to jump a few teeth.

Using my baroscope I confirmed what I had hoped didn't happen: the exhaust valves 'touched' the piston crowns. I could see slight, clean, indentations on the piston crowns, and black-brownish smears on the valves themselves. Damn this interference motor! Heads are coming off this weekend, going to Greg where his guy can turn them around in a week.

Jbasol had a similar thing happen to him when his harmonic balancer went out. He repaired the heads and just cleaned up his stock bottom end. As long as there is no profound damage to the crowns, I plan on doing the same. We'll check other clearances to make sure the damage is localized.

I'm looking to be back up and running before this month is out. Funny, I didn't think a shredded belt would take me out. Oh well... Plenum is already off, SDS is next... time to get back in the garage.

Any evidence or thoughts on what caused the belt to fubar?
Well, I was racing. I missed third gear and perhaps the quick change in RPMs did it in. Who knows, it might have broken on the way home, too. It unfortunately is not uncommon to shred a belt. Having it cause engine damage is uncommon. I might make a belt change every few months from now on.

The engine seized when I finished the run and was coming back on the return lane. It first sounded like I ruined the diff. I probably should have quickly turned the car off, but I needed to get off the track's return lane. As I was turning off, the engine cut and couldn't be turned over. I had to walk to the tower to get my time slip. 14.2 @ 102. I would have been in the 13's if I didn't miss third.:bigthumb:

The fact the engine wasn't revving high when it cut, coupled with the intial visual check that the piston crowns look ok, I'm not too upset. I want to keep the stock bottom end. Greg an I can slap on the rebuilt heads on in a day.

god im a mother fucker. Sorry to hear about that man.

Ive never got my car dynoed but its deff atleast 300whp. I know i was neck and neck with a porshe carrera s4 (spelling). We went from a 20-90mph shot and it was dead even.

I replaced my gts tranny with a gt one since i needed something fast. Next mod will be a lsd since traction and wheel hop scares me.

All good... Got the Plenum, SDS, fuel rail, and the lower intake mani off. Trying to think what my plan is for the crank pulley bolt. 140 ft/lbs. is not something that will come of easy. I may end up buying a tool at some auto parts store. I'll at least get the headers, the distributor off tomorrow. If I can get that crank bolt, then I can release the timing belt. I'm hoping I don't have to fight the head bolts too much.

so gts motor is an interference motor, and GT is not? sorry to hear bad news, im curious what belt your using on your SDS? i purchasesd a Goodyear Gatorback.. hoping that'll do the trick and stay tough in combination with a belt tensioner.

at least it went out on you at the track and not during sissy driving to the grocery :ghey: GL, hope this stays a quick fix for ya

I have a garage full of tools including an air compressor. If you need something I can help out :twothumb:

Both GTS and GT are interference motors. I used the Gates belt that Ripp sends with their kits. I had a NAPA belt (which is also made by Gates) which seems to be better quality. I was going to swap belts sometime. Should have done it sooner.
