I DID SEARCH! IN FACT FOR WEEKS!! FOUND NONE.

Ok, there is a noise coming from the driver side [haven't checked if it's on the RH too]. The noise sounds like a whirling wind. Like when you blew wind into a tube [or faced it on the fan]. I think the problem started when I had the ACT clutch installed just a few a weeks ago. They had to replace the shaft [half?] because it wont come out of the rotor assy. And they also lost my "SERVICE HOLE PLUGS"... Makes me wonder if the sound is from the new axle? would that be the sound of the clutch spinning inside the bell, and since 2 holes are uncovered, it makes the noise louder?

My take so far is my CAI sucking more air. But the thing I am confused of right now is that: WHY IT ONLY MAKES THE WHIRLING SOUND WHEN I START SHIFTING ON THE 3RD, 4TH & 5TH [PROGRESSIVE, DEPENDING ON RPM]? It does not make the noise on the lower two gears...

Anyone have an idea, please input.

Thanks in advance!:bigthumb:

btt. anyone? tomorrow, i'll put the stocky intake back on and see if it's in fact the CAI.

Maybe the wind is reacting on the holes to make the sound, like when you blow over the top of a bottle. I would put the car on jack stands and go through the gears.
i thought about doing that, but i decided not to. all because i don't feel very safe doing that... i might take to the shop and see if they can do it through the lift.
yea good, you shouldn't free spin tires over 35mph.
G
Plug/cover the holes with something and take it for a drive.
that was the next question. will the "mighty" duct tape keep up? i really don't think it will last the heat.. any ideas on whatever kind of tape i can use that will keep up with heat???

also i tried to put my stocky intake back on, but i didn't have enough time and not enough parts.:uh: lol

and, i went on and ordere the plugs from the stealership friday. they should be in on wednesday, only if the lady know what she was doing and ordered the right part...
You may think this is stupid but could it just be wind coming in through the window and the weather stripping. I know my old neon use to do that. And it only really started when i got to around 3rd.

You only need the tape to last as long as it takes for you to get to speed, so you can find out if that's where the noise is. And I don't think any kind of tape will make a permanent fix for that. Maybe JB welding some metal on there? This would of course be almost permanent, with the exception of some chiseling.

eh. not the window noise. i checked the noise with window rolled down once...
that's why the closest that i could guess is my CAI sucking air...
ok, a little update. the first part i ordered were wrong. so we ordered new sets.
but for some reason, the lady just can't click on the right part, and yea, she ordered the wrong one again... but, slightly relieved that the one underneath is right, it looks like. we'll see tomorrow when i install it.
got the service plug hole on.. the part underneath is the right one... will be waiting for the one on top... hope that will eliminate it.

Mine started making a whirrring noise after I installed my SRI.

My guess is the piping isnt sealed enough (ebay CAI)

It does it between 2-3k rpms in every gear except 5th
thought of that not being sealed enough too. i checked and made sure that they were, not. I did all what have been talked about here, [worries about the tranny covers] and nothing changed. I finally gave up on it, and after so much thinking, I'm fairly convinced that it is my CAI sucking air. :)
