all right, so I don't know where I ever got this idea, but what are the rules at most drag strips as far as convertibles? I drive a spyder, and for some reason I thought I'd heard that there might be a problem racing my car at one since I don't have an actual hard top roof.

perhaps it came from something I saw sometime about cars having to have a roll cage if they were running under a certain time. of course I'm not gonna be running that fast (at least not yet...lol). could someone just smack me upside the head and tell me I won't have a problem drag racing my car at a strip?

and then on a somewhat related note, if I CAN run my car at a strip...does the drag created by the cloth top slow me down enough to make it worthwhile to run the car with the top down (and of course, would it be allowed)? I swear it feels like I'm accelerating faster with the top down but it might just be because of the open air feeling. haven't had the car over 80 with the top down so it'd be a little interesting, but it'd only be a short stretch :p

My understanding of the current NHRA rules is that if you break 13.49, you're required to have at least a 4 pt cage.

NOTE: This rule is only for convertibles. Hard tops have a different (lower) time where the requirement for a cage kicks in.

I havn't been beat yet, but I only race when I know I can win :twothumb:
That's weak. Are you some kinda playground bully or something?

Race to race, not because you know what the outcome will be before it starts. That takes all the fun and excitement out of it.

I wouldn't even waste the gas if I already know without question that I'm going to win. :noway:

:werd: this is true of my hometown track moroso, in palm beach, fl... as for the rest of your Q, I believe your just getting the feeling that your going faster with the top down because your more aware of the surroundings ;)

Spyders are faster :agreed:

what is the difference between spyder and not spyder?
The "Spyder" is the convertible model. (i.e. 3000GT VR4 Spyder, Eclipse GST Spyder)

Which also means more weight due to additional bracing required to keep the car from bending like a twizzler in the middle without the support of the roof.

lol...yeah, umm, I could say I've never been beaten either, but that'd be a huge-ass lie. damn me for being really really stupid the day I got my car and thinking I'd see if I could keep up with a cobra...

No you fucking moron! The Spyder is a slow, heavy, poor handling car. The only times (that I can remember) I have "raced it" was agaist a Sporty GTS HT (won), My Dad's Stang Drop top(won) and my nehborz big wheel (lost!) They only reason that I drive it is because I like how it looks and I am a sucker for a lady with her top off. :flash:
