After 4 1/2 years of modding the Spyder...It's time to sell. I was the 'ricer' kind of owner, with the HOK bright paint, and 10-15 car shows a year incl. Nopi Atl, etc...I'll be 36 in April and hope for a sale sooner then that.
I have narrowed my options down and really want a Vette. $35,000 or less. I figure a 2000-2002 would be the way to go. Anybody have any advice?? I think I'll save $$ and not look into a Z06...I'll save on payments/ins. by getting a 6 speed, and modding for speed...Possibly the convert. or hardtop..Just affraid of being out, having it rain, and running home quick to put the top on if I got the hard top...
I'll take advice on what different years may mean if anyone knows. My head is spinning with all the research I've put into it...

what I have...

What I went & test drove...(Won't pick this one up persay...Need to sell car 1st)...

If you want to mod, by all means forgo the Z06 and put the money you saved into a good set of heads and cam, and you'll make way more power.

The Z06 is a great all around car though, and its not tough to find one under $30k with relatively low mileage.

No reason you shouldn't be able to get an '01+ C5 for under 30 in great shape. Try to get at least an '01, they made some nice improvements in that year including the LS6 intake manifold, Z06 clutch, and better rod bolts (good if you're planning on modding), among a few other small things.

I should make 6000 on eclipse, and put it down on the vette. it'll make for smaller payments, and I'll still drive my Blazer for the shitty months.

So I'll set my sights on an '01. I can't wait...I may even sell the eclipse cheap to get rid of it, and start shopping. Carmax actually has a couple of nice ones around here, and their pricing structure is reasonable. It's the first 'upgrade' in cars I've ever made thats from 130hp to 300+ :)

I personally prefer the FRC style of the Z06; 01s have a few quirks, but can easily be found for your price range. Insurance isn't that big of a difference between the coupes and the Z06, and between the Z06 and the convertible it's a wash. I considered getting one when I was shopping for the Z. Keep in mind other cars in that price range, like 01-04 Boxters, 97-00 911s and 01-03 M3s (including M3 convertibles).

just on the hard top comment. I really haven't looked at one of the C6's but didn't the C5 have a place under the rear window where the roof stored when you take it off like the C4 did? so you wouldn't have to run home, you just pull over and put the roof back on.

i figured they'd still have that. I know the C4 it locked into a pair of...well i'm not sure what you'd call them but it held the roof in place.
There's two small "edge holders" that hold the back edge of the roof in place and it kinda fits in there at an angle but it's pretty easy to get in there. I can do it by myself, and have before.

Ha! If I sell ya the roll bar...I'd have a couple of big holes in the back seat area...I do have some OEM parts, and aftermarket parts I'll be posting soon though...
Now that I see, I may go w/ the hard top...I'll have to call Travelers to see the $$ difference is w/ Z06 vs convert.

well tearstone...I work hard and have always wanted a 'real' sports car to have on the off days. I would like to be payment free, but the thought of a new car is too appealing. My daily driver is a beat up blazer, and would like something fun sitting in the garage on weekends off.

I have car payments now..It's just almost paid off and have always had a payment.

I have 2 car payments left on my Eclipse and never plan on having a car payment ever again in my life. I also plan on buying a C6 someday, but I'm going to save up for it. When you buy things with cash you will always get them cheaper.

The Eclipse is still a good reliable car, and I'm sure you would like to spend your hard earned money on investing in a portfolio then filling a debtor's pocket. Here's another way to look at it as well: http://www.club3g.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76752

I dont care if its drag racing legal. I just want it for looks. Ill trade u my stock parts in place of yours and pay for shipping

??????
1. stock parts do me no good w/ private party resale..I'll get more w/ it modded
2. the CDC Light Bar will leave two holes if I take it off. I am not trading it in...I'm selling it local.

I will post up extra parts soon....Including an ACT Clutch (brand new), rear clip, stock motor parts, exhaust, etc...
