I'm looking into getting the Hella H4 Optilux headlight bulbs (rated at 100/80 Watts) and was wondering if it'll be safe to run these if I upgrade to a 14-gauge wiring harness? The OEM harness is something like 18 or 20 gauge I believe.
Thanks for any help!

In all honesty you are far better off running those lights on their own relay, that way there is zero chance of melting the factory wiring. 14 gauge wiring would work, 12 or 10 gauge would be ideal.

If I may make a suggestion. Don't get those Optilux bulbs. I've tried them and was VERY dissapointed. Sadly even the Eurolights had better illumination, without the strain on your wiring. We sell them, but I don't unless someone INSISTS. Your better bet is to go with some PIAA Xtreme White's :twocent: I now have them in my car for both low and high, and they give the best light I've seen short of HID's.

Thank you for the feedback.
By any chance, do you sell the PIAAs? If you have an online store please PM or post the link.

BTW, how's the bulb life on the PIAAs?

Ya, we do sell the PIAA's also. I have not yet set up our webstore though. Besides, to be completely honest with you, you could probably get them cheaper locally rather than shipping them around. My margins aren't big enough to give much of a deal outside of in store sales :mecry2: Just about any accessory shop should carry them.

The life on them has been great so far. I've run mine on the eclipse for about 6mo, on my '05 Ram for over a year before I sold it, my '75 D200 (with hella H4 conversion) for 2 1/2 years. Of course everyones experience may be different; naturally.
