I have a 2001 Eclipse GS. Ive owned this car for about 3 months and im beginning to wonder if its worth putting money into. Its black, 5 speed. The only modifications I have made is aftermarket sparkler headlights, black taillights, 17 inch Motegi FF7 Racing Rims, Yokohoma low profile tires, Catback exhaust system, NGK plugs and wires, Kenwood headunit, two pioneer 12s in hatch.

When I first got it:

After the rims:

Could you all please tell me if this car is worth keeping? I paid 3k for it. The rear transmission ear recently broke off(after dropping the clutch at a stop sign) So the rear engine mount is disconnected and the engine shakes/jerks sometimes. The car idles rough, I cleaned out the IAC and have seafoamed it twice. The throttle body does have some clogged holes from silicone gasket maker/ I dont know if they have any purpose? But i will clean them out tomorrow. The car needs painted. It currently has a crappy budget paint job. I can hear small things pinging around in engine Only sometimes.. The exhaust manifold donut gasket is leaking(found it with the seafoam) A coolant line going from the pump to the intake manifold recently busted, I replaced it but now there is air in the system and the temp gauge rises if your setting somewhere. Cant seem to burp all the air out. I just replaced the intake manifold. But I still hear a hissing sound but im almost positive its where my idle screw is pretty open( because of the rough idle) The car doesnt go into reverse sometimes, gear shift doesnt shift in reverse unless put into first gear and then reverse. Engine has alot of vibration, gas pedal shakes when hitting 5-6k rpm. After the seafoam I have been able to shift alot closer to redline. I put a bottle of bars stop leak in the radiator so it could be clogged somewhere? But Its flowing through the bottom and top hoses.
One more thing, Car also has random misfires on the 3rd cylinder. The 3rd cylinder does have a hexacoil because the threads were stripped because of this the spark plug sets lower then the rest So they put more washers around it so it would set the same height and not be hit by the piston.
And the car does have some rust and holes under the hood But I have began sanding and using bondo to repair them.

If the mount was fixed the car would probably be a great car but thats gonna cost 700 to pull the tranny and 200 to have a guy tig weld the ear back on. Or 700 to pull the tranny and 400 for a new transmission all together thats what they told me.. I would love to begin building this car up But before that I need to get it running right first. Would someone please tell me if this is even worth it? Any ideas why im having a rough idle? What about the random misfire? Should I put any more money into this or just sale the car?

BTW This is listed for sale But I havnt went through because I love this car....Its just beginning to be a POS.

Do the maintenance and keep up with the car. If you like it enough, boost it... you have the perfect candidate.

Is there some other way to support the engine? Other than having the ear welded back on the tranny?

Is it worth boosting?

And yeah I live like 7 minutes from the bridge!! I drive over it every day lol.

Yes, if all the maintenance and parts are up to date, and the car is mechanically sound. Save some money, do the research around here (Evo8 turbo swap) and make the decision. FWIW You could have a 350whp Eclipse for less than $3k.

If it's just that one ear I wouldn't worry too much. Just make sure all the others are torqued to spec. Get that motor mount replaced asap though.

Yeah currently they put a big rubber block in to support the rear of the engine/tranny. But I dont know how they are going to weld the ear back on Its missing. Fell out somewhere I guess.. So I might have to have a new transmission put in Or the housing changed.. Not sure The only thing I have done mechanic wise is replace my intake manfifold It took me about 2 days. But now my intake manifold gets super hot And Im not sure why.

Hey could you all please tell me if there is any other alternative to the rear engine/tranny mount?? If I get it welded for 900 bucks it prob wont hold anyway...... Is there anything else I could do?? Besides buy a whole new transmission and having it put in?
