Cracked Motor Mount on 4cyl Auto

So I took my car down to the local shop and got a few minor things fixed, in the meanwhile I asked them to look into why my car rattled so much at stoplights while idle. When I shift into Neutral all the rattling goes away. They said the transmision mount was cracked, and that the other mounts were old and soft. They wanted 600 for parts and labor to replace them.

Anyway I am looking into a more DIY option, and have come across the Prothane motor mount option. However I want to ensure that I am doing the right thing. I read on the forum here that you should not "cut out the rear mount because the prothane installs over the stock rubber." Now if my transmission mount is cracked, I assume that is the rear? If so I assume I cant use the Prothane option? If that is the case what other options do I have?

This is a daily driver and all I want to do is get rid of these annoying vibrations and rattling at idle.

Thanks!

The rear is NOT your transmission mount. Btw, i have tried installing the prothane rear over the stock mount and it didn't fit at all. They should have just created a full solid piece like the other mounts :\

Ok. So I need to figure out which mount is actually cracked since all they told me is "transmission mount." I'll see if I can find a tutorial on here.

Just want to clarify anyway, if I get the Prothane inserts, will it be a more comfortable ride or a rougher ride? (I assume the reason why it rattles so much now is it is cracked) Or am I better off getting OEM? I just want to make the right purchase decision here.

there is actually only one transmission mount. the other three are engine mounts, front side and rear. i know, i have replaced them all. i have ripped the rubber off my rear one twice now. just get the stock ones. you should be able to pick up all 4 for just under $250. the three engine mounts are around $50 each, and the tranny one is around $100.

Okay so buy OEM replacements and just drop them in? No problem. Should I buy from the dealer directly (I know it will be WAY more expensive, but I get a family employee discount which might offset that) or is there a safe website to order from? Never sure what you will get with Ebay, and I don't know how many people here are selling their used mounts with low mileage.

Thanks everyone, really appreciated!

go to autozone or any other local parts store. i like to price them all and just purchase at the one i like better, i love price matching.
