Hi, Just installed the HKS exhaust, I like the way the sound is deeper and louder than the stock unit, the exhaust is made very well as the entire muffler was stainless steel, and this model came with the 4" super dragger tip, which fit well in the factory bumper, with just enough tip showing, the unit also came with all the gaskets and new bolts needed to install.

Here are some pic's and a vid clip

Dont mind the scratches in the rear bumper, backed into a pile of gravel at the hunting camp a few weeks back :(

Very nice choice indeed... I have it on my GT!
Wish I would have seen that it was $175 at RRE. I paid $250(+$80 shipping) from Stillen's clearance dept on ebay (plus they dented the tip from piss poor packaging).

Anyways, to add on to your review, yours does sound EXCELLENT.
Your 2.4L definately puts out a louder note and a tiny bit more bubbling (which I like) than my V6 does. Obviously, the 3 cats on my GT make mine only marginally louder than stock, but it still sounds ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! More of a mellow, deeper, and primarily a more constant even resonant tone (no bubbling).
While the 2.4L doesn't seem to have any rasp, I do prefer the bubbling undulations.
I'd like mine to be a little bit louder, and miss the bubbly idle sound of the stock exhaust, so I'm gonna delete my resonator (sooner or later). I confident that will sound even better, as the staight through, but traditional style oval muffler does produce a VERY pleasant low tone, and it has ALOT of sound suppressing ability. And sorry guys, I doubt that I'll have an audio clip up (at least any time soon)... I don't even know where to start and I lack the neccessarry equipment.

I see that you have the same issue as me though; The tip doesn't quite center in the bumper cutout. Mine sits over to the right a little more than yours, and even touches the bumper a bit. I'm gonna try tweaking it in the next couple of days by using shorter and/or longer rubber hangers, and maybe messing with the actual metal hangers if I have to. I'lll update on this fitment issue once I get a chance to fiddle with it some more.

With all of my bitching, it may sound like this isn't a good exhaust.... THAT"S NOT THE CASE.... I'm just a very detail oriented individual, and wanted to give as much info as possible without any audio available.

In closing, I highly reccomend this exhaust system. Just be prepared to tweak it a little if your as anal as I am about perfectly centereing the tip. If you want an inexpensive, superbly crafted, excellent sounding, yet fairly quite exhaust, than this is the one for you!

I'll see what I can do about the aforementioned fitment quirks and try to get some before and after pics on this page... maybe even some audio if I'm lucky.
HKS makes me smile.

Sorry man, but I have to strongly disagree.

If I HAD TO pick exhaust that = rice, then I'd say that a welded on universal can muffler is in the lead as the Chinese takeout container of pork fried rice.
The traditional oval canister and pleasant tip on the HKS unit are the EXACT opposite of rice, and one of the primary reasons that I got it. I didn't want a Coffe Can muffler, as I feel that 3G's are very easy to accidentaly rice out if done incorrectly. Don't get me wrong, plenty of people pull off can mufflers very well, but it's not for me, and not quite appropriate for my car's plans... The factory'esque exhaust design adds just the right amount of flare IMO.

Furthermore, let's revue the performance and mechanical aspects that can make this type of exhaust an excellent option:

1.) An axle back system can VERY easily be reversed to stock when the PoPo gives you a "fix it ticket" (happens plenty around me). It's also REALLY quick to install (less than 30min for me)
2.) Our factoy exhaust piping is sized nicely, and bent fairly well. There is one spot that the piping is a bit more crimped, and that is the rear section... the HKS unit remedies that.
(3.) We all know that an exhaust system hardly does anything for power on the 6G72 V6 (don't know if it's the same case with the 4G64). Replacing one of the main restrictions (the muffler) is a great way to get a tiny boost of ponies... did my butt dyno tell me? No, but I'm sure that a real dyno would show a 1-3HP gain.
(4.) Point 3 elaborated... Why pay $500+ for a cat back that does the same damned thing as the less expensive axle back. While a few companies use larger than OEM piping which can help a FI set-up (and maybe a 6g74?), most companies still use the stock 60mm (2 1/4"). If you think that those 2 mandrel bent sections are goin to give you more noticable power, then your crazy, but by all means, waste your money if you want.
(5.) Let's also face the fact that many of us get exhaust just for the sound and/or the spec sheet. This unit get's it done quicker, cheaper, and sounds just as good, or better than the next IMO.

Keep in mind that I'm really not trying to be rude, or argumentative, but rather I wish to show how this HKS system may be the most wise choice for the majority of us... The rarity/unique'ness of it is another huge bonus to me... they are out of production. :p So I wish you luck in finding one if you agree that the "HKS Sport Rear Section Exhaust" would be a good addition to your 3g. ;)

Thanks for the opportunity to discuss this.
Peace

Your exhaust is certainly a top tier product. No argument there... just giving the community some insight into my beloved HKS system.

Greddy EvoII has piping that is 60mm from the Down Pipe stepped to 70mm in the rear'ish section... I believe that Invidia is 70mm all the way back (not sure though)... So yes, clearly those 2 could be capable of more flow than stock piping, but those are the only systems (off of the top of my head) that run anything larger than 60mm (or 2 1/4") piping. :yesway:

The OEM piping is already 60mm, so basically what I'm saying is why bother getting a CB such as MagnaFlow(2 1/4"), when it will simply be replacing parts with practically the same thing that is already on the car. :dunno:

As always, to each their own... I just wanted to point out some of the details, cold hard facts, opinions, and advantages that I see with the HKS system.;)
