someone backed into my car in a parking lot. fucked up my whole back bumper. its gotta be replaced. the lowest estimate was 1300 and some change. so do i pay those fuckers at the body shop to fix it for 1300? or do i take the money from the lowest estimate, get the whole damn body kit for the car instead of just a bumper, put it on myself, get it painted, and still be around 1300?:fawk2: what would you do? (this is government insurance btw. got hit by a coast guard truck lol)

no u wouldn't get into trouble. when u take a check from insurance u can do whatever u wnt with it. u don't even have 2 spend it on the car. i'd c if the damage is only 2 the bumper tho, cause 1300 sounds a little high just 4 a bumper. if there's damage besides just the bumper (i.e. trunk/rear fenders) u may want 2 get it professionaly repaired, not just cover it up with a body kit. just my .02

yeah ive already checked everything out. the metal trunk lining or whatever you want to call it is bent like an inch, it doesnt need to be replaced tho, just fixed. (hammer sounds good to me). and then i found that evo bodykit for the car for 550. and a paint job just to match the body kit to the factory color cant be more than 500. anybody know where to get that body kit cheaper? thats definately the one i like best, ww and ss are to much. (unless you all can get some good prices). oh btw have any of you been able to find a walkthrough on putting on a body kit? i cant find one

no you wont get in trouble. Somebody hit my brothers hyndai accent... the back bumper flew off and was scratched like hell. But the funny thing was hyndai's are cheap and there like screw on bumpers and the bumper just came off the screws. so he kept the insurance money ($3000) and just screwed the bumper back on. Lolz

You don't *have* to get it repaired. The insurance company could care less. They just cut you a check for what it would cost *if* you get if repaired. Last insurance payment I got paid for a junkyard bumper and I pocketed the difference. They pay what they think is fair to repair it, to make the car like it was before the accident.

It's definitly not fraud. Car got hit, insurance pays for damages done to car. Fraud is if you set up the accident or purposely caused it just to make money.

but smart insurance companies cut the check to the place that does the work, not you personally. they do this because of idiots that take advantage. this helps to keep insurance rates down for the rest of their honest customers.

Too bad most of the bodyshops will put the money wherever you want it anyway. That way if you go over (which most people do) with what you want done, you pay the difference. Bodyshop gets more money in their register in the end. And because of the scetchy work done, you can't complain to the ins. as easily over quality.

In my family we had many cases of Accident(my sis and my mom) and insurance never came out to check the car. They only came once when the car was supposed to be totaled but we wanted to take the lowest amount of $$# + the car. Guy came out looked at the car and estimated the value even higher than a body shop.

i think they said if the car is payed for, the check is made out to you. if its not paid for, they make it out to the body shop that fixes it. im not sure. like i said, i dont know much about it, thats what this post was about. but ive made my decision.

theres no way this is fraud. The insurance company has to pay the same amount of money whether you repair the damage or not, so it makes no difference if you take the check and use it to repair the car or take the chec and pocket it
