i have an 03 GT right now. Thinking of going to an O7 GT Manual. Is it worth it for the price? Or should I go with a different car. I was thinking Civic SI or RX-8 or something like that...

they aren't any heavier than the car you're already driving...at least not much...and the added 70 horsepower helps a bit too

i think the 4g is a nice car..not a fan of the honda civic...and the rx8 has had some serious problems

First off, do you have the extra money? FYI- the previous owner of my GT lost nearly $10k in the first 3 years of ownership. I wouldn't buy a brand new car purely for that reason.

I'd take that same amount of money and buy an 2002-2004 vehicle. What do you need or want in a car? How about a 350Z, WRX STi or Lancer Evo? IMHO you aren't losing anything by purchasing a car that is a few years old and has some miles on it.

ok... and here is what i'm thinking right now: :hspin:

I'd go for the RX-8 :inlove: Have you seen the redline on those things!!!!!!:fawk2: The 6 spd is a nice kick in the ass too.

Have you seen the engine recall on those things!!!!!! There is no kick in the ass on the 8 as there is no TQ.

Sam said:
The RX-8 makes very little TQ. TQ gets you moving and HP keeps you there, the RX-8 makes enough to get you going, but not throw you back in the seat.

Mazda responds to RX-8 community's anger over leaked video

Recently a privileged video released without Mazda's permission was leaked onto the internet. In the video, a member of the Mazda National Dealer Advisory Council states, "Mazda is well aware of the negative impact on the scores caused by the RX-8 surveys. They agreed with us that the situation had to be changed. And so, effective July 1st, RX-8 will be continued to be included in the survey, but the scores will no longer be included in the results."

For some owners, the RX-8 has mechanical gremlins that continually occur. Squeaky brakes, for instance, are one issue that has received three Technical Service Bulletins, according to zoom44, an administrator of the rx8club forum. Some owners never experience the issue while others have visited dealers several times to get it fixed. Other issues range from repeated engine flooding to reported cases of engine failure on certain models in hot climates. Whether these gremlins are caused by faulty design or poor service work is a hot debate on the RX-8 forums.

The tight community of RX-8 owners, however, supports each other in their quest to keep the Zoom-Zoom going. To help each other out, rx8club forum members have even begun a listing of Mazda dealerships at which owners have had both good and bad experiences having service work performed on their cars.

This video that has angered RX-8 owners happened to be seen by zoom44, who attempted repeatedly to get a response from Mazda concerning the statement. After several attempts and no reply, zoom44 decided to post a link on the rx8club forum to the video that's currently hosted on Google Video
The link for the video is gone

Now Mazda has to replace every engine.

Car News said:
MONTEREY, Calif. -- After suffering a black eye from disclosing that it won't count RX-8 owners' opinions in its internal customer-satisfaction scores, Mazda says it may have to replace the engines in many of its flagship sports cars.

The voluntary recall of all 2004 and 2005 vehicles, and some 2006s, is expected to be announced this week or next. It involves damage to the catalyst resulting from oil leaks in the RX-8's rotary engine.

Any engine that does not pass a vacuum test must be replaced, said Robert Davis, head of product development and quality at Mazda North American Operations.

Engines prone to failing the test are mostly in hot climates and use synthetic oils.

Mazda also will check each RX-8's battery and starter, which tend to fail in cold climates.

"We're going to give these cars the white-glove treatment," Davis said. "We would rather replace the engine than have the dealer crack them open."

Yeah. Sure. Tankish. That's one point of comparison. However, I will add the following subjective enticers for you:
  • Definitely much more torquey than the 3G. Tires still squeal easily going into 3rd.
  • Transmission shifts much easier and the gear ratios are far better than the 3G's.
  • MIVEC counts. And it kicks better than any common Honda's to the seat. Again return to torque.
  • Chassis is solid. I'd rather have a solid chassis than a lighter car with a lot of chassis flexion. You want a lot of torque and a lot of flexion, get an F-body.
  • Just better grade interior, quality, and comfort features than the 3G, right from the factory.

Cons:
  • I still hate that Mitsu paint is so fn soft.
  • Panel sheetmetal is of lesser gauge.
  • Bumpers are paper-thin
  • Headlights should be OE-HID by now.
  • Needs tweets

I love it. Even the GS has a decent amount of power for me. Its an everyday driver so I wasn't going to dump 30k on a car that's gonna hit 100k miles in like 4 years. I recommend. :twothumb:

Ok Sam point taken on all the issues with the RX-8. I didnt do my homework you got me with my :moon: I did have a really enjoyable test drive for a few hours one weekend. AND all in all I ended up buying a 3g which I am looking forward (and somewhat not looking forward) to boosting!

ok ok ok ok... so here is the deal... i spent some hours at the dealers! Because they sell Mitsu and Nissan... so finally, i left with this:

2007 Nissan Altima SL, fully loaded with $500 down and $360/month for 36 months.

To the point: Is this a good deal?

I wouldn't lease either. MAYBE the only time I would is if it were my second car (for the weekends and such) and I knew I didn't want to keep it for more than 2 years. but even that is still a maybe. with interest rates where they are now on new cars it probably wouldn't cost much more, if any, to just buy it.

:uh: Damn Tomek ... you went from EVO VIII, to STi, to 4G, to Civic SI, to RX8, to Altima :twitch: Just don't forget you PAPSMEAR license plate :fawk:
heh... yea, i've been looking for a while and I know I want a different car! My fiance is preasuring me "NOT" to get a sports car and I'm sorta thinking the same thing that I don't want a car to get parts for. It's fun, but i'm not getting much out of it!

what i really really want is a Maxima or TL! Both look great! What price i'm willing to pay for brings up an Altima!

I priced out the differences in excel on leasing and buying. True, I may end up with $7000 cash when i sell my Eclipse after paying it off, and $0 when i trade in the Altima, but then I have to re-invest the $7000 into another car, whereas I get a brand new car after 3 years with the lease for a $1000. and monthly payments, and its not like I'm NOT going to own a car one day! Does this make sense?

This thread is rife with the thoughts of someone who doesn't know what the hell he wants. :agreed:
been there, done that.

When you can really only afford to buy ONE nice car and you LIKE 5 or 6 it's hard to decide which one to buy. and then all the sudden 2 or 3 more come out and it's like WTF. do I buy the one that looks great but has so so performance or do I buy the one with great performance but so so looks...
