Little help deciding...

So I got a new job about 3 months ago. It pays more money. Obviously, the first upgrade I look for is another car.

My eclipse has been pretty good to me. 110,000 on it now, only one major issue. It's just getting up there though, and it isn't what I thought it would be. Honestly, I didn't do my research before I bought it. I wish I could have found this site before my purchase. Not very easy to make fast lol.

Anyway, I have 2 cars that I am looking at, and really don't know what to do. I have thought about the SS Cobalt, but that's a no. So far my 2 choices are a 06 or 07 Civic si. Brand new, no miles, they go for about 21k. I doubt I could find one much less than that. The good? 2.0l Vtec, 6 speed, LSD, 197 hp, fun as hell, and hey, it's a honda. The bad? It's a honda. Ricer heaven. Also, no torque.

Second choice. Dodge srt-4. 2004 or 2005. Around 30,000 miles, and around 13-14k. The good? 2.4L turbo 4 pushing 230 hp and 250 tq. Upgrade kits straight from mopar. 300hp is usually pretty easy. And they sound amazing. The bad? Well, everything else. It's ugly. It's hated by anyone who doesn't have one. It's ugly. It is pretty much rice heaven also. And oh yeah, it's ugly.

I can get over the "yeah, whatever you do, it's still a neon" arguement. That's pointless. Because hey, whatever you do, an evo is still just a lancer right?

I guess I am trying to justify the price difference in the brand new civic si. Either way, the dodge is faster and easier to make even faster. Give me your honest opinion. What would you get?

These are critical questions that need to be answered. Also, keep in mind your age and priorities. If you have something reliable and you're still living at home/school, then consider saving so you can afford to rent and live comfortably. If you're already renting, then considering saving to buy something for the tax deductions and benefits.

Trust me.. Schedule A write-off's = $$ Savings $$ which you can put towards the toys.

I want a 4 cylinder. I want it to be pretty quick at first, with options to make it quicker. I want to be able to get into the 12's one day when I have a little more money. I really don't even want to go over 20, and that my honestly be out of my price range, but I think the honda is really nice for the price. Definately want a 5 speed. I want very nice aftermarket support.

Not right now anyway. There isn't enough out there for it yet. Plus, doing shit to the civic will void the warranty. I'm sure you could see 12's on it with an aftermarket turbo kit. But the warranty goes out the window.

12's really wont happen in the cobalt either, dump a lil money into what you got now
That's the problem, it isn't just a "lil money". I have a 00 gs sporty. No ecuflash for me. No standalone for me. Unless I swap to manual, and that is waaaay over my head. And way to much when I could just buy a different car with way less mileage. And read my post, I said I thought about the SS Cobalt, but that's a no. They are pretty nice, but not what I'm looking for.

I have seen srt's running 12's though. Hell, 11's on slicks. There are already whole aftermarket turbo kits out, along with the stage kits from mopar. You have to admit. That's a bad ass 4 cyl. car no matter how bad they look stock.

Yep. My only car. I want it comfotable, 4 doors, and reliable, but still fast.

Still renting. It's just time for something else though. It probably wont be reliable for much longer. Also, this loan will be through the bank of grandma lol.

WRX didnt make your list? Awesome cars and you can find a 03 or 04 for under 15K now. Probably can get a STi at around 22K or so. I love my rex, fun to drive, after my new suspension its really fun. The ride is a little rough on the highway but nothing too bad. I enjoy it every time I step on the gas.
I really haven't looked at many of those. I've been looking on autotrader at the others, but that's a good idea. I'll have to check into that.

Mmmmm....no.
Lol. You get my point. The srt is way different than any neon I've ever been in.

get a fucken Sti if you want a fast 4 banger...
Sti is out of the price range. If I had that money, I'm an evo guy, not sti. Trust me, that's all I want is an Evo. Just can't afford it.

Really, there are only a select FEW 4 bangers that are fast. There are definitely some QUICK ones out there, especially compared to a gs sporty.

I made the switch to a G35 from a GT sporty and it was the best decision I ever made.

Seriously, just search your options (don't just look at hondas...) Think about nissan's (i know the altima se-r is a v6 but it is a bad ass ride), there are tons under 20k with low miles that are quick right out of hte box.

I second the WRX. They're awesome cars. I'd honestly rather build up an WRX then buy an STi straight up. 50% of the guys I hang out with drive upgraded WRX's and they toast stock STi's. Upgrades are EASY to come by, and with just a few bolts on you'll be rocking in no time.

Why does it have to be 4 door? Or do you just like the sedan look?

On another note I second the Nissan Sentra Spec-V idea. Awesome ride comfort, great handling, plenty of mods, 6 speed, and you can get a brand new one for under 20k. My only con for that car is the lacking interior, but that can be made to look better.

That car will never get in the 13s, let alone 12s, and the QR25 has way too many issues for me to suggest ownership to someone.

The four door would just be nice. I carry people around sometimes, and it's nice for them not to have to sit sideways in the back seat. This isn't something that's going to happen really soon. Just planning ahead you know.

Trust me fergie, If I could afford to have an Evo AND a roof over my head there would be no questions.

Instead of taking a loss at the dealership with a trade in I'm just going to go ahead and pay the eclipse off. I only owe like 3 on it. That will be paid by feb. probably. Then I'll save a down payment, possibly trade the car, possibly keep it as a DD, and get a cosigner on a loan.

The rex is a great idea, but to me, it's just as damn ugly as the neon. Possibly worse lol. They also cost a little more even with more miles. I have seen an old ass subie with no exhaust or anything go over 300,000 though. I'm definately going to check into that some more.
