Opinion on shaving door handle vs. door ribs

Curious, I decided to try something.

The first pic is ONLY a shaved door handle which I'm definately doing. The second pic I blended out the ribs on the door to make it smooth (like a stratus door). Just curious on which one everyone likes.

It's a fresh idea, haven't seen it done, so.. figured I'd chop something new.

Def. do the handles. I've always loved shaved handles. Especially with lambo doors, just hit a button, they pop open. I was worried about the shaved doors though, thats one of the main things I always liked about the eclipse. Suprisingly though it looks pretty good. I think I would have to get used to looking at it though. Almost doesnt look like an eclipse anymore.

The door ribs are a very distinctive feature of the 3g.
Without them, it's less recognizable as one.... but much cleaner looking. :yesway:

Do it up!

Um like 50/50 on liking it. If I did.. I would just pick up a set of Stratus doors.. much cheaper.. and already smooth.

Honestly.. for it to look right, the sideskirts and rear bumper would have to be molded and smooth. I doubt I'll do the ribs, ust figured everyone would like to see something new.

Keep the ribs they make the car. It will ruin the lines of the car if you filled it in. Espacially if you have the stock front.

Got to shave the door handles. Looks badass, plus think how much nicer it will be not having to wax a damn door handle. But leave the 3G's door ribs alone. The 3G's styling is something Mitsubishi really did a nice job on(in my opinion). If you want smooth doors go buy a Neon(a white one would look badass).:fawk2: Oh wait a minute I think I'm to late with this comment!

I'm 50/50.... I wouldn't shave the ribs or handles on my car... but I don't have a show car, so...

^Glad to hear. Seemed like a good investment. I'm thinking I'll save for a jacked up 4x4 if I'm still in CO next winter. Something like THIS.

...now I'M the "hijacker". sorry.
You've made your decision already anyway, right?

It is better overall to go with Stratus doors if you wanted to do this; yes the price will be cheaper, but less modification involved for the same effect will have a much better chance of a nice, clean result.

That being said, I wouldn't do it. Not with that front bumper atleast. You are essentially cleaning up and smoothing out the side profile of your car, yet leaving the front and rear as busy as they can be. Smoothing out the profile only works if you are going to smooth out the other angles too; if you don't, it's going to draw all the focus to the busiest parts, and the car is going to look off balanced.

One of the biggest mistakes people make when modifying their cars is realizing when to leave a particular aspect alone. It's like the 70 year old woman who can't stay away from plastic surgery. Shaving the door handles has it's downsides but I think it's a clean mod; beyond that, put your efforts towards something else.

I agree 100% and thats why I'm only doing the door handles.

I was bored and did the other photochop and figured I'd post it up to get other opinions. It's something no one has really seen before and the chop turned out pretty good and realistic so made good reason to start a thread. :hspin:

Either way, I really appreciate your input. There are a select few on this site whos opinions I truely value, and yours is definately one of them.

well thanks! I'll take that as a compliment :)

There's a few old members that shaved all or part of the ridges, but this is back a few years where most of the current active members weren't around. These are the only two that I can find pictures of, but there were 5-6 that I remember. One guy with flames on the front had posted a ton of pictures at one point, but I can't seem to find any.

Nastyboy and Blackout were the first on the site to add air-ride, both laying frame; Nastyboy shaved his handles but not the ridges, but I don't have any after he finished the body work and paintjob.

Mark! Those remind me of the HKS model eclipse. Does ANYBODY know where I can find those friggen fender flares. I hate the SS ones, but If I could get the wide set like that I'd be souped. I'll get a pic for referance.
