Get a new rim. Have the car checked over real good by an alignment shop. Save all of your reciepts. Then go after the city/county that is responsible for taking care of that road. This happened in my area. A lady won a law suit against the city for repairs to her car from the shitty roads.

Lady in our area also got reimbursement after writing just a letter. Go the non-legal route first (no reason to piss them off early) and if that doesn't work file suit. In most cases, if the road is a public road, you will win. If it was on private property (a parking lot), do the same with the property owners. The law stands behind you on this one.

is it worth it to try to take pictures of the pothole? its not in the best area to try to take a picture....lots of traffic.

 

Lots of Traffic!! Even better!! It's a public safety issue. Use a telephoto lense.

 

Yeah, definitely try to get reimbursed for this situation. I mean, it's not going to hurt to try, and like everyone said, if it was a public road, let alone an extremely busy one, I can't imagine that you would not get some sort of reimbursement.

 

Yea, you can actually get reimbursed by the state for the condition of the road. File a complaint against the road department in that town for not fixing the pot hole. Make sure you take a picture of it before they patch it up so if you have to go to court for it you have evidence of the pothole you hit. My father is a supervisor of the road department for a town here in NJ so he knows alot on these situations.

 

I was discussing this with my mom during Thanksgiving break, and she was under the impression that the only way you could get reimbursed is if there have been prior complaints about that part of the road, and nothing had been done about it...If anyone could enlighten me a little more, I'd like to hear the full explanation.

 

you can do that ,i hit a pothole and it cracked my bumper will they pay for it all,bumper paint and all that

 

My g/f cracked one of her rims about a year ago when she hit a huge pot hole in SC. She filed a complaint and was reimbursed for a new rim and a new tire. It took a couple months for everything to go thru but it really wasnt that much of a hassle. She just sent a few pics and filled out a couple papers. I would most def. look into it.

 

I have two of those wheels in my garage that I am looking to get rid of. One of them has a small crack that leaks air that I am probably going to try to fix and the other one is fine. It has a tire on it but its worn. Let me know if you are interested.

i figured it was time for an upgrade.

 

I went through 3 cracked/bent wheels before I figured out you could get the DOT to reimburse you. The $1,050 I spent replacing rims could have bought me an awful nice set of aftermarket wheels

Oh well, lesson learned.
