Not B+G ofcourse, but all these other brands such as Royal purple, pennzoil,GM, and a few others. From a crash course I recieved from Eslia and a bit of personal experience, you should only use something with a viscosity of 75w90 and a GL-4 rating or better. I know there is a lot of misguided info on tranny fluid and someone should make a sticky about it, boy it sure would have saved me alot of heart ache. Anyway I'm going to put the right stuff in and see if it helps. If not I'm going to try and work one over on the dealer.

Good luck with the dealer--they'll see the excessive wear on the tranny and know that something was up with the fluid. :(

For future reference, the recommended tranny fluids for manual tranny 3Gs are:

Redline MT-90
BG Syncroshift
BG Syncroshift II (all-synthetic, not any better than regular BG Syncroshift though)

I think JR's got a thread about the "Scot Gray" mix too, if'n anyone wants to try it out, but any of those fluids by themselves are fine.

I use 1 part Redline MTL mixed with 2 parts Redline MT-90. Much smoother shifts especially in the mornings and no 2nd gear grind yet (6months). I recommend against using MTL alone since it too thin to protect the tranny.

I thought GM synchromesh was good stuff? :dunno:

What happened while using GM Synchro mesh? It ruin your tranny?

edit: duh, I just read the 10 other posts regarding your tranny. I wouldn't fuck with royal purple tranny fluid with a manual. Stickwith whats known and good, BG Synchro, Redline, GM Synchromesh.

man sorry to hear any problems with ur tranny, but i've experienced both fluids in my 3g GT and i gotta tell you that the B+G felt great at first compared to the stock fluid but then i switched to Synchromesh and "damn" what a difference i felt it less notchy and a lot smoother and easier to change gears on cold starts. ive had the B_M short throw shifter and now ive got 90,000 miles and cross my fingers havent had any problems with my tranny.

I run GM Synchromesh and I have had no problems. Knock on wood.

There isn't anything wrong with reviving an old thread. It's just you could have looked at a user manual for the car to find out how many quarts you needed. There is also an online manual in this car forum as well.
