Hey guys, I'm hopefully going to be a new owner of a 3g eclipse, but I have a few questions before I make the first move. My boss is selling her 3g. it's a 2002 fully loaded GT, no cracked dash, leather is mint. the whole car looks perfect inside and out and she is very meticulous with it, oil changed every 2500 miles, only the best when something needs replacement. (auto). It has 132k miles on it, and I was just wondering if it's worth buying. I'm new to Mitsubishi's (nissan guy) and wondering how the engine's and tranny keep up with everything else. Oh, and she said for me she'll take $2,500. good price? Worth it? Any help would be great guys, thanks

You might need to ask if the 120k maintenance was done, I'm not fully sure what all is done with it as I haven't done it myself (I'm at 90k) but that would be the only extra expense you'd have to pick up it would seem. Not a bad price in my books!:yesway:

If the condition is as good as you make it out to be, that seems like a very, very reasonable price.

Since it sounds like they are pretty forthcoming with info about the car and maintenance records... See if it has had the timing belt changed yet (I'm assuming it has if htey are the t ype of people who change their oil every 2500m) but that is basically the only MUST do maintenance item you'd need to worry about right off the bat.

I personally do not like to buy used automatic cars just because I've been burned a few times in the past buying abused/poorly maintained transmissions. That said,it really is the luck of hte draw. That's just a general opinion though. Since my car is stick, I've never paid much attention to the 3g auto options so I'm not all that familiar with their reliability track record other than reading a few mixed opinions about them here on club3g.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I would hope they can provide records of service such as a logbook or receipts. That condition you described with that price is awesome. Like stated make sure the timeing belt, water pump thermostat etc was done already.

I'll ask her today. She's 50, but very into cars and she made sure that thing got babied. I haven't seen a scratch on it yet, not even a dent.
If you seen how she drives, you'd know she never abused it haha. I'm just worried about how long it'll last me. I've been tossing options if I should go with a spec v sentra (b15) or this eclipse, it has 30 more horse, and is more of a sports car compared to the sentra. I don't mind the tiptronic, cause for 2.5k, I think it's a good price, just worried about how long the engine will last in typical 3g eclipses

Getting back to what I said with the timing belt, barring any snapped belt/interference valve issues the 3g's power plant will last well into the 200ks assuming its adequately maintained.

Will definitely remember that. I did a little more research on the 3g eclipse, from what I hear, it's good.. but the negatives set me back. People compared the 3g to a celica, others said it's not worth owning because of constant problems and maintenance is more of a hassle and costs more to maintain the car than buying price.

I bought my daughter an 03 GS recently. 120K on it, very nice condition. I bought it with a noise in the motor, fo $3000. Turned out to be a piston wrist pin seized. Cost me about $300 total to fix it, and once I got it back together, it runs great! I think it was well worth the money. Daughter loves it!

If this car is in the condtion you describe, I would not hesitate. Otherwise, tell me where it is, and I'll buy it for the wife!
