Hi there!

So I'm looking for you guys opinion / advice about a litle project I have. A friend of mine ( the one who painted my whole car ) is really good in airbrushing and he proposed me an airbrush job on my hood for really really cheap so I can't refuse this. I have some basic ideas about what I want and there is some things I'm sure I dont want. Here is a sumary.

Thing's I really dont want:

- Persons / animals
- Airbrush that look like a big sticker ( I want something that will flow with the car )
- Skulls

What I have in mind:

An airbrushed view of the over-top of my engine with an SDS ( that I dont have now but that will come in a future project ) in like a big burning hole with red metal mealting borders like if thehood have melted from the heat of that demoniac engine!

Or some kind of a cut-off view of the engines showing the pistons in action with some candy redish True Fire ( for people who know airbrush you'll know what this means)

It's tough to explain something that you have in mind but I thinks you guys will understand a bit!

What I need now is you opinion and even more imporant, I would like you to post picture of airbrushed hood ( on what ever car ) that you find interesting and that respect the things I dont want listed above. Inspiration is really important in this kind of project.

Thanks !

Form the pictures in your avatar it looks like your car is very clean. I would leave it like that and if you really want something airbrushed maybe have him do something on your passenger dash.

i think your car looks great the way it is, i would leave it, id say if your going to do anything paint wise go 2tone and do some nice lines on the hood, but even that is iffy because of how good your car already looks. In the end its your decision and your car, im sure (judging by the taste u have and what youve done so far) whatever you do it will look great

If it helps you decide, I at one point was planning to have a photo of the engine bay ghosted very lightly on the CF hood, between the painted edges. I've obviously decided against it since I will no longer have the car soon - but, if I was keeping it, that's what I would do.

Go for it. My only recommendation though, is to put a tripod centered in front of your car and raise to 6ft. Snap a photo of your engine with the hood open then another with the hood closed.

Blend both photos and print a copy of it and print the other image of just the motor. Any airbrush work you do you want done from the same angle of view as if you were looking at the motor, otherwise it will look slightly off. Also, be sure you tell him the level of detail you want has to be VERY high, don't have it come out looking like a cartoon in the end. Have the image fade out around components in the engine you don't want highlighted, i.e. radiator overflow tank, fuse box, etc.

Best of luck.

eh. I would leave it alone personally...airbrushing your engine on the hood is only going to look right from the particular angle that it was painted. The concept is great, I just don't think the execution is going to be as stunning. You would be better off getting a clear hood, painting areas of that, and having that to use at shows if that's the look you want.

Granted, I'm not much for giant murals and airbrushing...I think it looks incredibly tacky in most cases, unless it's a theme car of some sort. Ghosting something is about as far as I would take it myself, or just do it as a detail (instead of using it as a focal point). Best of luck either way.

EDIT: Steve posted that before I clicked "post"...he brings up a good point, the detail involved in the airbrush work is going to be the difference between a neat detail and a junky one. Keep that in mind.

Definatly agree with all your comments about the way it should be detailled so it dont look like an ugly sticker on my hood and the guy who want to do the airbrush talked to me about that too and that he want to make a reference project for his airbrushing skills. And good point hijacker, I'm gonna try to make some photoshop too from different angles to try to make him do something that just look right from 1 angle and odd from all the other. Anyway I will keep you guys posted!
