It's a fairly new converitble top.. about a year. The weatherstripping on the driver side door leaks where the sections fold together and it drips on my seat belt and sometimes on my seat and when it dries, it smells like mildew :(

anyone have any idea?

The Mildew odor is also known to come from the doors. Have you noticed when the car doesn't seem to smell when you get in but when you roll down/up the windows you get the smell?

I think there is a TSB on it to replace the weather stripping but I have never looked into it any further.

Also... [fingersCrossed] I have a 2001 and I don't yet have any leaks [/fingersCrossed]. You may also check that the door is fully closing. The latch mechanism sometimes requires adjustment to pull the door in further when it is closed and that will pull the window in tighter under the top.

The door shuts perfectly.. it's just where the peices of weatherstripping fold back together, there is a very slight gap in between it.. i'm thinking since i'm not gonna be using the top during the winter, it'll just ghetto rig it and put some kinda bridge there

Spyder top leaks

I know this is an old thread but perhaps someone else with this problem will be helped. The window seals are not normally replaced with a new top unless requested. The top rails have adjustments between the inner liner and the top that when properly adjusted will close most cracks, however, after 4-5 years these rubbers shrink. The best workaround is to bu you a roll of 5/8 x 1/2" weather stripping at Wal-mart for about 3 bucks. Cust and fit a short piece on each side of the rubber where it meats. After it is closed for a couple days it will conform and seal the cracks. Replace about onec a year.

^ thanks for the tip. I was just looking into replacing the weather stripping and one of my cables snapped. So i bought the cables, but can't afford the weather stripping right now bec of Xmas.( each door is coming out to about 170 for just the weather stripping)

Also, can anyone give me a ruff idea of what i need to do to change the cable that runs over the doors in the top. I couldn't find it in the service manual and I haven't taken the top apart to look how.

Not much of a problem at all. There are two little aluminum rivits at the fron. Just drill them out then take a pair of needle nose pliers and bend the little hooks at the back kina straight to get them out of the frame. You can pop rivet the front back in or use a couple of properly sized SS sheetmetel screws. straighten the eyelets a little at the back, insert them in the hole and then reach in there with a small screwdriver and rebend them so they will stay in. By-the-way. You don't have to disassemble the top. Just lift the edge up a little and reveal the loop in the edge of the top cover that the cable goes through. A straigtened coat hanger works well to get the new cable in or tape the new one to the old one and pull it through. Put a little grease on the new one so you don't rip the top when pulling it through...

2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder convertible with both front doors and windows leaking!

My first soft top convertible & I totally love it!!! However when it rains both doors fill up with water. When I open the doors the water drains out of 2 holes in the bottom of each door. When I lower then raise the windows they are wet inside & I can smell a musty or moldy scent. Because I bought this car used with only 37,000 miles on it I'm guessing it has the original roof? Along the roof above the windows I noticed 2 gaps on each side where the water is supposed to run off. The idiots at the dealership told me the water is supposed to go thru the doors & drain out at the bottom!!! I do NOT believe those guys!!! Something is wrong......anyone have any ideas for me PLEASE???

They are correct, that's what is supposed to happen. However it sounds like yours are clogged. It could also be the plastic seal between the door and the window itself.

I'm not sure who else has had the issue of having the water leak under the back seats, but if you have I figured out how to fix it. There are drains for the convertible top under the plastics in the stowage area for the convertible top. You'll have to partially open the top (only until the back windshield is up and the stowage cover is lifted. then remove the plastic liners. The drains are located where the 2 screws are on the bottom piece (just in front of the screws). Once you clean that out (mine had glass clogging them), I used a shop vac to suck out the gunk from that whole area, you can test it by pouring a little water over the drain, it should drain out the bottom of the car. Hope this helps someone that has been as frustrated as I have been with no actual info on where these things are.
