Goodbye to my 3g...

so lets see. where to begin... its been a nice few years here on the club. this place was an invaluable source of information and ideas. some of which i applied, some of which i contributed myself.

but as of tuesday morning around 1am.. i am now no longer an eclipse owner :( i was coming home from a girl friends house after a long night. had been drinking a little bit previously in the evening.. ate dinner, felt fine after a little while, and decided to drive home. i had work the next day and i was like 50 miles out of town, so i wanted to come home to have a close drive to work in the morning. i left at around 12:30.. and half way there is when it happened. i began dozing off a little bit. my eyes started to droop and i caught myself doing it twice at first. we know we've all done this before, lets be honest.. but it never gets to be THIS bad.. well at the third time or so that i closed my eyes i mustve let go of the wheel and drifted off to the right and then SLAM!! i run into this huge construction power generator with one of those big yellow electronic signs mounted onto it, about the size of a dumpster and probably weighing 1000+ lbs. i slammed into that on the front passengers side, music goes off, both airbags deploy, and my car bounces to the right and i go forward and down the hill/ditch about 20 feet thats on the side of the freeway.. eventually being stopped by a tree. car is totalled..

i was lucky that i was driving in the right lane, there was nobody else involved, i had no passengers, and i walked away fairly unharmed.. just minor cuts and bruises. the whole interior caved in on me about 8 inches or so, so i have 2 big bruises below my knees where the dash hit my legs. and what seem to be some minor sprains in my wrists from being jammed by the steering wheel. and somehow i have cuts underneath my chin.. but other than that i walked out ok. didnt need an ambulance or anything. i was also lucky because the CA highway patrol tried damn hard to get me for a DUI, but i blew below the legal limit. so thank the lucky stars i didnt get the DUI. all that came of it was the loss of my car.. which is bad enough though.

what really sucks is that the car was still in top operating condition and it still looked beautiful for being a 6+ year old daily driver. i loved this car. it looked as good as any other 3g i saw(imo) and ran just the same. no problems whatsoever. it served me great for those 6 years. couldnt have asked for more out of the car.. thats why its really such a shame that this happened. i dont even remember the mileage she had when i wrecked her :(

but i will try to part out what i can if anyone is interested in parts.. things like seats, the hatch, gas lid, etc.. depending on whether or not i can take some tools to the car when my insurance company gets possession of it. i dont intend on having it towed to my house only to be a stressfull reminder of what is probably the stupidest mistake ive ever made in life. i wouldve never, ever, imagine that something like this wouldve happened to me of all people. ive got all my shit together in life. no debts, no kids, great credit, nice place to live, everything youd want.. and i keep everything handled well.. but, i dont know.. i definitely screwed up here. but ive definitely learned my lesson. dont take things in life for granted, and make sure as all hell you stay the fuck awake on the road.

dont let it happen to you.

Damn.. sorry to hear that. Car was very nice looking. Glad your OK and were able to walk away from it. Best of luck on the next car.. and just because no 3G doesn't mean you can't post here.. just bumps you up for possible Modship!!

Classy looking ride. Congrats on avoiding any life changing disabilities!! Sorry to hear about the loss of the 3G though. Thank God she was looking after you when contact occurred. Maybe that was her way of saying, "Thanks for taking care of me these past 6 years."

So what color will the next 3G be? ;)

Sorry to hear about your loss rwc. But, it's good to know that you're okay.
You're not alone. During my senior year and right after starting my new job, I make a decision to stay up for about 30+ hours, concluding with me driving home afterwards. It was in my father's Bronco II that I managed to fall asleep and drifted into a parked Mustang at about +-45mph, completely destroying it. I flipped the truck onto its roof, after unclipping my seatbelt I fell to the ceiling of the truck and crawled out unscathed, only to find the horrendous damage I had done to the other car. I was within 2 miles from home...2 miles. I'm just forever grateful that my parents have full coverage and were understanding about the accident. [/story]

Not to be long-winded, I just thought my story might help you in some way.
But again, it's good to see your not seriously injured/impaired. Sorry for the loss. I thought you had the best-looking, cleanest GT on the boards. Hope you find another 3G or something "new" that you enjoy just as much you seemed to have enjoyed your GT.

Glad you were not hurt. Your car was gorgeous and was one of the few, if not only, that would make me want to keep the 00-02 front end. Don't leave the boards! Just keep posting when you get your new ride. I'm sure it will be as nice, if not more so, than your 3G.

glad your ok man.. definately one of my fav 3g's..i know how u feel too.. last year i was drivin home from the girlfriends after a long day and i woke up goin off the road and tried to recover and ended up lookin the other way up against a row of trees after doin a 360 in the middle of the road. luckily my dad towed me out and i drove away from it unharmed and my old car was fine.. but afterwards i realized that i drove almost a mile on a windy road goin uphill asleep..just the thought scares me..glad ur ok though.

thanks for all the caring words and comments guys. really appreciated.

but, life goes on..

with my good credit rating and $2,000 ive had saved on what was either to be a new motor or some body work done on the 3g i was able to get a new vehicle today.. so thank god i never went ahead and spent that money. i searched around at a few dealerships and got something completely different this time. after having owned 2 hondas, then my eclipse, i decided it was time to go a different road. im tired of having to slow down for driveways and speed bumps.
<br>

so behold.. as of today at around 6pm.. with only 25 miles on the clock when i got her, this is my new "pickup" :p

i know its really nothing special, and it may not be what most of you are used to seeing around here. but its definitely what i wanted. simple single cab '07 toyota tacoma, white or black(6 years of black pita ownership convinced me i should go white this time), auto tranny, 4 cyl. i dont plan on ever doing any racing with the thing, and rarely doing any hauling, so the 4cyl was right up my alley. i havent decided whether i want to raise it slighly with the beefier tires, or go the lowered truck route.. but either way i hope to have her just as clean looking as my 3g was. TRD parts here i come!

R.I.P. my black 3g... i loved you when i had you. thank for you possibly saving my life..

Your 3G was extremely clean and tastefully done. It hurts to see the after pics. What's more important though is that you are fine. Good luck to you!

u did have a clean black 3g. give u credit for the nice things you were able to do for the 3g eclipse. i hate it when i see nice looking eclipses get killed the fact that it ain't common to see nice looking modded eclipse anywhere around.
