Idler pulley missing?

first off I would like to say hello.
I searched and searched. visited every faq I could get my hands on. Figured its time to ask someone with more experience with this type car then myself. (which is basically none.)
username says it. moms3g.

few days go by, I experience intermittent squealing during startup till the engine gets to operating temp. sounds like a pulley not a belt. little metal sounding. She's driving home and notices her brake light/battery/sms light is on. I come over to check it out and her belt is off. Ok quick fix. All the diagrams, from the service manual I found here on this sight. to the glovebox booklet show 5 pullys for the serpentine..Crank/tension/AC/idle/alternator. I only have 4.. crank/tension/ac/alternator.. nothing in between alt and ac.. The serpentine belt I have when routed the way the booklets say has about 3 to 4inches of slack in it with the tension pulley fully up. Checked the part number with advanced again and its the correct one. Funny thing is between the ALT ad AC and directly right of the tension is a blank spot. bout 2 to 4 holes, cant recall . for bolts. but no signs of anything being mangled.
Does anyone have a picture of the pulleys? God I've searched but for the life of me I cannot find one among the sea of useless crap we call google.
Hoping I can get some help here. Thanks for reading

2001 eclipse spyder v6 24vdohc 3.0 (is that a gt or gts?) thanks in advance guys.

Only some of the early models had the optional arm and pulley. Just because the two holes are there for the arm doesnt mean the vehicle came with it. Later they produced the ac bracket without those two holes.

Cody, great explanation.

good. cause the holes did looked unused. I figured it might of been some sort of relocation spot or something from factory for other models. w/e but still dosnt explain my missing pully if i have one and lack of tension. Please throw me a rope here im sinking ;(

is the tension pulley the idler / tension? if thats the case I should only have 4 pulleys and perhaps someone put the wrong belt in my sleeve at the parts store.

to be clear. this what it says i should have
crank shaft. -> AC -> idle -> Alternator -> tension.

I am saying I do not see an idle pully.
thank you for clearing up that un used hole. but what am I missing here.

This is what you should see.

that's excellent. do you have a link to that workbook? I could not find it in the service manual provided on this site.

ok last question.
does the alternator pivot to take up the remaining slack? cause i honestly have about 3 inches of slack with he tension pulley in the furthest top most position.

ok good good. progress. thank you, it was indeed routed wrong. I still have a bit of slack tho. the tension pulley is all the way down and secured. hold nut is secure and torqued properly. anything else that pivots or takes up slack? cause im still getting about 1 to 2 inches of un tense play in the belt. maybe because its cold and rigid? idk does the alternator pivot at all to bring up slack or is the pulley the only source of adjustable tension ment to be used. Thanks for all the fast help guys. My cold fingers thank you.

Did you happen to match it up with the old belt?

Every other pully in line is stationarry and will not move. That tensioner pully is the onlt one that moves. If you still have slack it sounds like you have a incorrect belt size.

2nd thought, do you have the belt on the first track or 2nd track on the crank pully while looking at it?

first one. smooth surface. second track goes to PS. smaller belt.

i did line the belts up when i first got them. old one substantially worn so not much compassion. ON the belt tho are my numbers. figured it was just manufacture number. but both. the old factory one and the new dayco one both say 6pk12 the new says 6pk1200 the old factory one says 6pk1205.. think i found my discrepancy. ?

called them again. they insist its the right one. which is why i started this thread. Its ran the right way. called another auto parts place and they have the same 1200 number as the other. said the 1205 is wrong.. mm.. shrugs.. i give up. 20 bucks and a 6 pack to whomever can figure it out. thanks

im gonna go down and get to pk 1205 number belt and see what that gives me. maybe whomever had it before did something different to it. IDK. but the one i bought its just a hair to big. Thank you all for your help and ill let you know what my next venture yields.

well update. I got the same number as the belt i took off. still to big. routed the way as described. around the crank. under the tension. over the alt and under the ac.

is there any reason something could be out of whack? like something moved? I feel like a simple task is becoming some sort of major project right in front of me and i cant do anything to stop it.

any suggestions or ideas?

the tension pulley is all the way down also. ty

can you take a photo?

does the crank pulleys first track have grooves in it? cause mine is smooth.

heres a pic with the belt w/ the same number as the one i took off originally http://www.club3g.com/forum/members/moms3g-albums2302-serpntine-belt-picture15612-img-0385-1.jpg

its a little tighter.

sorry about the camera orientation. its upside down. AC is closest then tension. alt is way up and crank is to the right.

sorry about the time elapse. had a guy some over to look at my roof.

just did a quick search for crankshaft pulley.. um the pics i found have grooves on the first and PS track. mine dosn't. its smooth.. how the heck does that happen?

Crank pulley does have groves for both belts. Sounds like you need a new crank pulley.

ok update.. New harmonic balancer on. New PS belt. New generator belt.
the crank was so worn down its was literally day and night between the two. and the different belt numbers? well looks like they knew the crank was wearing down so instead of replacing it, threw on a smaller belt.. !!! can you believe it? I mean wow. Thanks all for your kind and quick assistance. Ill be sure to stay around lurking to solve future problems.

Thanks again =)

yea thats no problem. I'm still working on it.. get this, whomever put the smaller belt on it, cross threaded the tension adjuster. It's completely unusable now. I either have to re-tap it or get a whole new assembly.

I didn't do it, I swear. I only took it out and cleaned it up. When everything was said and done and I go to finish the re-install, It wouldn't thread past the first groove.

i hate hacks.
