wow, now that i think about it, i noticed today that those two rivets where gone. wow if this fixes it, which i will try tomorrow, then you are amazing. thank you so much, this was annoying the hell out of me. i owe you big time.

 

A generalized thread should be stickied for this issue. Loss of power at 4k-5k RPM, weird noise at WOT/4k-5k RPM, so and so forth. BTW, they go for two bucks at the stealership, pack of 2 generics for the same price at parts stores. :twothumb:

well i just called my stealership a few moments ago, they don't sell those pieces by themselves. They said i would have to buy a whole new intake.

Screw the stealership, man, go to Lowe's or Autozone or whatever and pick some up. They're easy to find.

you could just buy a intake or a bolt on filter to fix the problem to. I got a bolt on filter from pjautomotive for $25 shipped and it totally removes everything after the MAS and replaces it with a cone filter. Problem solved.

 

dude u caN get those rivits anywhere dont let them rip u a new one man they gave me some for nothing at that but thats me but yeah dude like 1.50 for a pack of them rem. theydont have to look the same unless your picky like some people just as long as they work!!!!!

 

alright thanks for all the help you guys, i went to pep boys this morning and got a pack of 15 (smallest they had) for 3.20. problem solved. it's so much more fun to drive knowing i can really get into it now.

That's total BS. I just went to the dealer last week and had the guy look them up to give me the price. Looks like your parts guy is a short bus rider.

Good advise. The snorkel the easiest place for them to go when they come out or break.

you asked for the incorrect parts.
they do sell them.

 

until you find em, you can simpley use either twist ties or plastic zip ties to remedy the problem for the meantime. you shouldn't have all that big of a problem finding em though cuz most auto parts stores will carry these kind of rivets.

 

You know, a friend of mine here is having the same problem with his GTS...something about a loud noise at 4000 rpm. Dealer has had 3 cars come in with the same problem. The dealership pratically took one of the guys cars apart trying to find the problem. They couldn't so Mitsubishi is sending a tech this way to find out why all three are having the same problem. Not only that its reported in some other areas. May be a known issue coming soon. I will keep you guys posted about what they say.

 

There should be a factory recall to replace these turds with sheet metal screws or something, at least something that won't break every time you jump on the throttle. Maybe you should direct those techs at the stealership to this forum so they can learn something useful. Keep us updated.
