Ok, start off my car is stock... Just a 2002 GT Spyder. Nothing done other then looks. I was at the gas station here in town and a kid with a Sti was looking at my rims and left. I pulled out and when i was driving down the road he was pulled over. I drove by him and he quikly caught up and was trying to pass me but there were cars coming so he couldnt. Well i turn onto a four lane road and i hear him gas it and he passes me. The street comes to a T where you have to turn left or right. He turned right and stops there in the road. I turned right and just sat behind him and he looks out the window and waves me on so i slowly pass him and hear him put it into gear. He revs it and starts going when i got to about his rear bumper. So i i gas it, downshifted from 2nd into 1st at about 6500rpms and i could not belive it, i walked away from him. I got it up to about 55 and we hit a corner, i take the inside, We get out of the corner doing about 60 65 and im still walking away. Down the road I notice there is one of those cop radar things so i just slow down... He didnt, he finnally passes me all i could hear was his rpms fully red lined. He passed and was doing about 75 as i could tell from the radar. I know its not much of a race but i was so excited that i walked away from a sti. Like i said i dont know if he is good at racing or what... But he deff was trying to race... If it wasnt for the radar im sure i would of won... or atleast came close. Deff makes me want the turbo more now...

I dunno man... if he was trying to race.. even if he was a little incompetent he should have left you.
situations like that make anyone want fi but i still call bs he would have ran you so fast 300hp vs 200hp...come on
I know all this, Thats why i dont really belive it... I dont count it as a win or lose. I dont really even count it as a race. All i know is he tried and i stayed in front of him. I know my car is not the beast like a evo or sti im more into look rather then the power. Also he might not be good casue like i said when i slowed down he passed me, he was hitting his rev limiter and keeping it there. All im saying is it makes me want to buy a turbo and get the horse up in my car so when people like that try i can give them something to work for. If i thought my car would of beat him i would of stayed and tried from a light or what not. Or i can always pull out my 1g GSX and try that way. I just think its funny becuase i have cutsom stuff to my car people automaticly think i think im fast...
You make a vaild point. I was thinking that today when i saw him, if it was really a STi... It did look just like a sti all the works. Do the STi's come stock with BOVs that you would hear? Come to think of it im in a convertible and never heard any sign of a turbo. My one friend said his STR-4 didnt come with a BOV... i suppose i need more research. All i know is on my 1G GSX is very loud. Whats the easiest way to tell if it really is a STi? I will look the next time i see him. Thanks Guys... haha You know what I get from people when I drive my 01 Eclipse GS? Even though it's nearly stock(Intake,Exhaust)...I get people comin' up to me to ask me if it's turbo?They still think the eclipses come turbo and that they come with the turbo option.haha...I don't know if anyone gets that but I do.
^^That's how you can tell if it's an STi, they will have that huge wing in the back, a big center scoop in the hood, and bigger rims. The nice big STi badge in the rear helps also. I have rode in a STi and those things are mean, the only way you could have walked on him was if he was just toying w/ you and didnt even try. It was probably an Impreza WRX, there Bov sounds a bit the same.Rhodester said:

Well to me it looked like a STi, it has the badges and rims spoiler, everything. Like i said he either didnt know how to drive the thing or was toying. I am not much into the racing scene right now. I dont count it as a race. I AM NOT SAYING I KICKED HIS ASS. Soon though... I am not much into the racing scene right now. Maybe after i find a evo v or get my 1G tuned...
I no longer go by what cars "should" run. I beat a high 13's capable GST. Several Mustang GTs mid 90s 5.0 + newer 4.6, an older modded camaro (dont know, sounded healthy), 2 SRT4s, and I really want to race this Evo in town. I've seen him run mid 14's at the track. All of these cars driven properly should beat my car. Driving skills and reaction time are huge. Good kill for your self described not really a race. Not everyone can drive a car to it's potential, and everyone including me can have problems from time to time that someone else can exploit. I know I've missed gears, been caught sleeping at the light, etc.

Yeah, i was thinking that was strange too. My friend and i both read the post twice to make sure it didnt say "downshifted". As i didnt think i said that to begin with. So i relpied questioning your post about me saying that i downshifted, and now my post says that i did downshift. Hmmm. I will have to agree, quite strange...
About the Sti not racing, why would he have me pull up next to him? Then wave me on? When i heard him step on it i gassed it and was in front of him. I know he didnt pass me untill i slowed down and he must of been trying to race cause he passed me doing 75mph. (I know this cause there was a police radar there) He continued to do that through a school zone. I know the sti's are more of a car then an eclipse. Who is to say he didnt miss a gear? Or stay on his revlimiter to long? Like i said i heard him hitting the revlimiter as he passed me. So the few of you are saying that i could have a STi and race Jeff Gordon, Driving a eclipse, that I would WIN? The perfomance of a car is not everything.

You guys are animals lol I was in first and shifted into second at "about" 6500 rpm... I didnt say i was at exactly 6500.. I wasnt paying much atension cuase i had a conrner coming up that i didnt want to mess up on...Phil said:

Nice forum experience? I was merely asking a question as to clarify and gain a better understanding of what you said.
My suggestion: This is a great forum that has many great members. The combined knowledge of everyone here can be a great resource for any 3G Eclipse or 8G Stratus/Sebring owner. In all honesty, I've always viewed this "Racing" forum as a joke. Very few people can actually provide proof to show that their story is actually true and almost every thread here describes some form of a street race, which is highly frowned upon and condoned to no degree by many members as well as the admin/mod team. Because of the noticeable lack of evidence inherent in many threads, anyone and everyone with a lack of credibility will be questioned to the Nth degree.

Thats true... All i was trying to do is share a story. I was not attacking you or the forum when i said nice experience. What i ment by it is that, i cant belive peopel get this offensive and all of a sudden most people are pro racers. I like this forum alot... I just think its funny that my orginal story just changed. Someone edit it? Hmmm dont know... I feel the same way on street racing. Im not much into the racing scene. I can make a list of mods and i have not one mod to increase horse power. I am sure the sti was just messing with me and so i played back a little. I share the story and everyone just tears it about to what they want. I will contiune to use this very nice forum... Just think i will stay away from the racing part of it...
