I was on my way to a car show today with my buddy, who was drivin behind me in his 3000gt, when i heard this loud noise comming up behind us. The noise was comin from behind my friend, who was behind me, so i couldn't tell what kind of car it was. After a few seconds, he gets into the other lane and comes up next to me. It was a beautiful, clean lookin 350Z, and man did that thing sound nice. I could tell he had some money into his engine from the sound it was making. He also had a number chalked on his back window, which means he was just up at the track recently. So we looked at eachother, smiled, then off we went. He immediately pulled almost one car length ahead, but he stayed less than one ahead from 45-80. After 80 i let off cause i knew he was starting to pull on me - plus there was a car infront of me that i was comin up on. Juuust before i left to go to the show i lowered my boost from 9 to 8. I may have had him from 45-80 if i left my boost at 9. He gave me a thumbs up at the next light, because he didnt think a 3G could run with him. That's ok though, because even though i lost, im still impressed with the way my 4cyl turbo hung with him.

If it had a blower on it, well, you would know it. There would be no way to not hear it at WOT; same holds ture with a hairdryer on it. And cams, or the like don't change the VQ35DE sounds all that much, so I would bet all it had was an intake on it.
I have the AAI kit with the Te3/Te04 turbo. I think a stock 350Z has like 280hp. This one had at least an aftermarket intake, and it was a six speed. The stock Z has 287CHP, and makes anywhere from 220-240WHP on the dyno, stock. Add an intake, and the stupid ECU retards almost any performance gain, so you can almost stick by the numbers I just mentioned.
How much of a gain does the reflash give? I was wondering about that for a long time.Sam said:

Its not so much the actual flash that gives WHP, (roughly 15-20 peak WHP) but it overrides the dumb ECU from retarding mods added onto the car.
The VQ35DE has a ton of potentential, (500HP+ documented on stock internals) Nissan just played it really safe with the tuning.
