Straight pipe

Hello, I've been searching around and listening to many exhaust notes and I've come to like quite a few straight pipe setups. I was thinking of going with a straight pipe from the cat all the way to the end. I was suggested to just straight it from cat to the back in order to keep it emissions passable as NJ only requires emissions now for inspection. Let me know on your opinions. Will the straight pipe reduce performance? I've searched so much I have all this info and need clarification and to put some of this in order.

 the 6g72 is a raspy SOB. me personally, i think you should check out some flowmaster vids. for some reason that sound is appealing. gives it a nice exotic sound i think, not to mention emissions usually requires the use of at least one muffler not just a cat (or something that looks like a cat....). resonator helps get rid of rasp and makes it deeper (i.e.: why srt4 neons love exhausts with just 3 resonators no mufflers). i think it is ironic how gt's come iwth 2 resonators and a chambered muffler, and how the flowmaster sounds so good even though it is very similar (chambered muffler).

When I bought my car the douche before me straight piped it and it sounded terrible. Nvidia has a nice deep sound and had I known the greddy sounded like a weed wacker I definitely would've went that route. I wouldn't recommend the straight pipe idea, if you can't afford exhaust leave it the way it is.

why delete the resonators? it makes no sense? hell i'm running my stock exhaust and it sounds beautiful. First off, for the 6g72, performance wise, the stock is pretty good (pretty free flowing too). Get rid of your cats first and make sure there are no leaks! many raspy sounds actually come from bad gaskets and leaks. then listen to it. then maybe get some headers (skinny gt suggest mine look like cmf) just stay away form megans (or get them and get a custom downpipe made to make it equal length) and enjoy.

Straight pipes are fun and sound amazing on the V6 models but after time the loudness begins to take away from the quality of the ride and adds potential to getting pulled over because hard pulls can be heard from great distances away. I have a full catback thats catless and it sounds great but I will very soon be re-installing my OEM muffler on the 3" piping so that I can actually DRIVE my 3G without the whole world knowing it. So just take that into consideration when designing your exhaust. Good luck :yesway:

nah man in South Jersey we don't get bothered. Thanks for the offer on the Evo2 but I'm not a fan of the Evo2 exhaust. I'm young, in college and driving a pretty sporty car so I'm not too concerned about noise XD... I've decided to go with a Borla catback. I just fell in love with the nice deep crisp note.
