Geo Tracker?

I'm looking to get a cheap commuter and I found a 92 Geo Tracker. It doesn't even have 60k on it and it's only $1800 and I can probably talk him down to $1600 or so. Anybody know anything about these ugly ducklings?

Also, I realize these things are retarded, but for the condition it's in, I really don't care if I look like a tool driving it, haha. I'm in college and can't afford any better.

It's 4WD and a 5 speed.

I have one as my winter car. Its a 96 white soft top with about 97k miles
Mine is also 5spd and has 4WD.

To be honest, its not the greatest, but its pretty fun to drive. Great gas mileage too. Granted it tops out at like 70 :eek3:

It does tend to feel like it wants to roll in sharp turns but I've never had any problems. You'd have to be really begging for it to have it happen.

That sounds like a pretty good deal IMO. Maybe take it for a test drive if you can, I'm sure they're not for everyone. But I enjoy the little tracker for what its worth.

Good Luck :yesway:

4WD, soft top. I just called the guy and he's going to get back to me when he gets off work so I can go take a look at it. Thanks for the info guys, I had a pretty good feeling this was a deal, but I know little to nothing about these cars so I just wanted to make sure they aren't complete piles, haha. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

well every car is different but they're fairly sturdy things. just keep up on the maintenance, like timing belt and fluids.

Meh, I just need it to work well in snow, which it does. It dumped last night out here and I drove it over to my friends house so we could do fluids this morning and it worked great in the snow.

Yeah, and no plan for ANY mods, except for a cheap CD player and some not-blown speakers.

i HIGHLY suggest you change the thermostat before winter as well as drop the blower motor from the dash and blow any debris out. those soft tops are NOT warm when it gets COLD. you'll want the BEST heat you can get, maybe even get a one stop hotter thermostat.

hoses should be changed if they're original. you can also try to insulate the doors some and seal up gaps from under where cold air will blow in while you're driving.

or find a hard top for it to insulate with styro. of course if you don't care how it looks you can just make a tube frame back there and get some sheets of plywood...and well you know where this is going

still, a fresh thermostat a step hotter will also help improve the winter MPG.

just checked, only see the std 195F ones. still, best to have a new one. makes a big difference.

Yeah, it's such a cheap part that I might as well. The only other thing that needs to be "fixed" is the lock on the back, for some reason it won't work. I'm thinking at some point the lock needed to be replaced and there used to be a different key for it, but whatever, there's like 2 sq feet of space back there anyway.

just get a new lock cylinder with key, shouldnt cost too much and should be easy to install. usually just a clip holds the cylinder in and it pushes one rod.
