My other hunka hunka shit.
![]() Recycled Mom-mobile, total cost to to me? $263 ![]() Going to toss some money at it spasticaly to make it more pleasant to drive in the winter, first project...195F thermostat. Future improvements? HID retro (dependent on headlight fitment), heated seat (only one for me), some better interior lighting (dome bulb burned out finally, after 14 years), and whatever else I feel like tossing it at on a whim for tiddly winks and poppy cocks.

I like that, especially if you make that your winter beater.

I keep forgetting its NOT the Celica, I can't enter a ramp at 50, I cant take a ramp at 50, I can't take a ramp at 45, I can't take a ramp at 40, I can take a ramp at 35 but I feel like its going to capsize like the SS Poseidon. I have to take ramps at 30.
If I step on the accelerator pedal past 3/4 throttle, nothing else happens. It does not go faster, it just makes more noise. Similarly, if the tachometer reaches past 5000 RPM, that last 1000 RPM is solely for show. The seat has no side bolstering The rear brakes are drums There is no ABS The headlights are dismal The engine whines, it does not roar. All of this conspires to find me driving like an elderly woman, often not realizing that I'm going UNDER the speed limit by at least 5 miles an hour.

There is a reason for this...
They were given to my mother years ago by someone, she wanted to use them. I was about 14 or 15 at the time and I installed them with a 'friend'. I need to re-wire them and re-run the wiring as its pretty poorly done...but hell they've held up for 10 flipping years! I use them as daytime running lights to make the car more visible, they are switched but will turn on/off only with the key in RUN position. They've got SHIT for light output, they're dimmer than I remember...probably because there is corrosion in the wiring, I'll fix that. My current quest is to make the 3rd brake light mind numbingly bright, I'm going to tear into it and see what kind, if any, reflector it has and then go from there with either a very bright LED bulb or a better reflector, both, or try my hand at MAKING a LED panel with some high intensity LED's to sit behind the diffuser. I want people to really understand when I apply my brakes that I'm applying my brakes. None of that 'I'm sorry, I didn't see your brake lights' bullshit here!

Is that a V6 or is it the 4cyl? Timing belts on the 4cyl are cake.
I worked for Mazda for a year or so, not many problems with the Millenia's just couple suspension parts go bad and the exhaust likes rusting out up front. Looks good

Those Mazda 626 with the FSDE Engine (2.0l 4cyl) are bulletproof man, but if the idle ever starts messing up you'll have hell getting it back to what it's supposed to be.. is that thing an auto or manual? The auto trannies are notorious for croaking
Nice car though. My probe is essentially has the same engine/drivetrain so if u ever got a question, I know alot of the common problems with them

the original one was worn out and staying partly open, wasn't getting good hot heat fast like I should. I figured that since this will be used in the winter alot and on the highway alot I'd go a little hotter than the factory 180 for a little hotter heat and the slight bump in VE you get from higher coolant temps.
Let me tell you, you cannot hold your hand infront of the vents without pain now, on ANY blower speed setting. Usually when you goto a higher blower speed you can feel the air get cooler due to either the core is being cooled more than it can sustain or the air is unable to pickup enough heat. judging by my hand, its just as painful on high blower as it is on low blower. I'll see how much faster it gets to full temp tomorrow morning since tonight it was still warm from circulating it in the shop. So far its WAY better. I was going to do the hoses also but the one clamp is in a tight spot and the upper hose I got had shit for fitment. the OE hoses are still fine, I'll let them be. Yes, I know I'll need clear lens headlights...thats getting taken care of maybe. Have to see how things fit, it looks like it should work though.

Yes, I know. Just hoping these other ones fit. I haven't taken the time to mess with it yet. Looks like you need to pull the bumper back partly...I'll mess with it when its warmer. Next projects are my drivers heated seat and loud ass horn.

I thought there were a year or two in that body style that came with clear lens head lights? I think Ive seen one somewhere with them.
Edit - Never mind I was wrong. Can't find a pic with clear lens. Hmm. Last edited by wright06jhs; 01/17/2011 at 07:06 PM. |

No, you're right. But the shape is slightly different, which is why I'm not 100% sure I can get them to fit. They should fit with minor trimming and fiddling.

Ah, yea no halo's here. I may insert some small LED's to illuminate housing to make the car more visible (amber) but I'll probably leave it alone.

0W-30 oil, shits good. Engine cranked much faster this morning in the cold and started easier, reached warmup idle speed faster. going to run it for 6K miles with a standard Champion filter, a slightly over sized one.

0W-30 motor oil? I know all the usuals (Advance Auto Parts, AutoZone, Pepboys even Walmart) sells it. Like Bitter testifies to and what has been said before that oil is great for the winter time especially. I would use it myself but I'm a little concerned about the bearings in my turbo. Definitely good shit, the best actually.

![]() Fixed the ground side of the ghetto fog lights, they're brighter again. The power/relay side needs some wires cleaned up, better connections, ect, can dick with that later.... The airhorn came in today, its fucking big. 15 inches long, trumpet is 3 inches wide at the mouth. Holy hell, I may have overdone it...a little. I'll get to installing it over the course of a few days here, maybe do the electrical tomorrow, mount the horn on another day at lunch. I only get about an hour a day to work on my own shit so I have to break it up some into parts and plan ahead what I think I can get done in that hour.

Dammit, no Wal-Mart or Canadian Tire around here sells it. I've asked around for it many times, but most people are like
then and I'm like ![]() I really don't want to have to drive to Buffalo just to get engine oil. |

Cement tongue under sliding barn door frost heaved up a little due to the extreme cold and the door won't open or close if I did get it open. Nothing happening today.

So my dome light had been burned out, I bought a new 'bulb' for like $4 on ebay.
![]() Photo's suck, hard to get a good one without tripod. Its white, the interior is blue and its taken through the windshield which adds a blue cast...also the fucking white balance was hard to set on this one. It's bright, like having a real compact fluorescent sunlight bulb inside my car...one of the 40w equivalents.

added a 6ga ground strap from the battery negative to the head, also replaced the battery neg terminal since it was loose and wouldn't tighten up. Starts a bit easier now...
