I found out recently that my reverse lights stay on anytime the car is turned on. The only way to turn them off, is to turn the car off. So I was wondering if anyone has delt with this and have a solution besides spending tons of money at a shop. I was thinking of getting the backup light switch and just changing that out and hoping that was the problem. Any ideas?
Thanks

Ya, that was the first thing we tried, it does turn them off :) just no reverse lights. I also was told it could be the netural saftey switch or some brake switch (according to the dealership) But I will just got buy the backup light switch and see if its something nice and simple.

I don't think there's anything else connected to the circuit other that the backup switch.

I know this is old but I have an interesting issue which is similar.
In the past my reverse lights did not work. I jumped the connection on the plug and the back-up lights worked. A new switch was installed and then proper function was achieved.
Fast forward lights were out again so again checked with jumper and confirmed bad switch. New switch purchased BUT a problem...the reverse lights worked everywhere except reverse.
Looking at the factory diagram at Tearstone.com (thanks to TurtleTammer)
the switch should be "normally open", the switch I was sold is "normally closed".

Anyone with a multi-meter and a manual transmission is asked to verify this by unplugging the switch (no need to remove it) putting the car in reverse and checking the circuit. If this is verified as correct on an actual car I will notify the manufacturer of the switch. Otherwise I need to see why suddenlt my electrical circuit for this system has reversed itself.

Don't see why you need us to do that. As the manual says it should be normally open, your switch is normally closed. You have the exact opposite of what you need, and as a result your lights are working the exact opposite way they are supposed to.

Rev lights reversed?

Well, I am in the same boat... I never changed my switch. I know the rev lights worked before, but one day i noticed they were always on, and when in Rev. they turned off... The only thing i can think of, is someone did some transmission work on my car prior to this. I dont know how the switch works, but maybe something inside the transmission was changed when they did the work? I am wondering where you ordered your switch because I bought a new switch for mine and it did the same thing, so now I think I need the switch that you have... Other note... My right tail light is out, break light works... I have replaced the bulb, and no luck... Any ideas there?

So I pulled the switch out again, and looked in the hole. I dont know crap about cars btw... When I look in the hole in Neutral I can see something metal down there. When I put the car in Rev, it goes away.
On the switch, the lights ccome on when the switch is plugged in, and when I push on the ball on the end the lights go out.So That all seems like thats how is should work... so I dont know what the deal is.
