So, this post is coming from RedGS's car....on his computer...a carputer if you will. Club3g doesnt look so bad on a 7" touch sreen at 800x600. Next up, Quake 3 at 60MPH :p

The computer is a Compaq laptop with a desktop 2.4P4 and 512mb of ram. The integrated graphics however are a little dated, some kind of 'Geforce to go' with 64mb of shared ram.

Pics will be posted later today. :)

extending the power switch. i had to solder those tiny wires to the contacts on the top of the board next to that tiny switch with out melting the switch, board, or fucking anything else up. i had never done work that small before, it was nerve wracking but i got it done! i honestly didnt think i could do it!

it just occured to me. before somone asks "wtf you make a thread about getting on a laptop in a car for?" the laptop is setting behind the drivers seat, the power switch was extended and now sits on the center peice between the seats, the screen is a 7inch touch LCD at 800x600, and the sound...doesnt exist yet since his alpine cda 9811 doesnt have line in. he's getting a jvc kd ar5000 unit to replace it so he can have line in. the gps antennna is also on order and he's getting a better wifi card and antenna.

you should give a warning to the 56K guys

You need to hide that laptop under the seat or something and use a wireless keyboard.

Is that screen flip out?

Yeah we are working on a place to put it. Under the seat doesn't seem to work though... :stumped:

The screen is not a flip out. We have it mounted on the dash but it can be detached and put in the cubby hole above the head unit so it doesn't get stolen.

I'm not sure if I should do a wireless keyboard or one of those flexible ones. I also was a mini keyboard. I'm not sure where to keep the keyboard, though.

that keyboard was just a hand one to make a post with, its not staying  ya, i agree that the laptop needs to be better concealed. i was thinking of a pouch on the back of the seat, bolted through to the frame of the seat? its still a work in progress really.

also not all of the wires showing are for the system. the usb, video, and power for the touch screen are all routed under the arm rest and into the dash. the wires under the hvac controls is the wire for the pocket logger

Or even tuck the wires and run them to the hatch or something?? Thats would be an  You could do something with it in the hatch??

ehhh im wary about puting a laptop in the back so near the amp and subs.... :ugh: not just because of the constant vibration but also being soo close to such possibly strong electro magnetic feilds...i know that its well sheilded, but that only goes soo far. please keep in mind that this is not 100% finished yet and when its done will look much cleaner.

[inside joke] GOATSE CAR!! :lmfao: [/inside joke]

BTW the black wires near the cubby hole and under the steering wheel area are not related to the carputer; they are for the pocketlogger and go ot the obd2 port.

if anyone has some good suggestions on how to mount it back there behind the seat, besides under it, please post them.

under the seat will not work because there isnt clearance there...the laptop is too thick and the seat sets too low.

also in the hatch sucks because should you want to put in a dvd or need to fiddle with it you have to pull over and go to the hatch to mess with it. behind the seat is acessable to the passenger and driver more easily.
