How would nitrous be involved (I'm curious)?

I'll take a stab at it though

Intake backfire, blows intake apart, hot fuel mixed with super oxygenated air ignites under hood, car consumed in flames, nitrous tank in the back adds more oxygen to the fire? Just a guess.

The reason I ask is because nitrous is not flammable by itself right. So how do we come to the conclusion that it was nitrous related. It could have just been a fuel leak right.

edit: In fact looking at the pics, I see fuel or oil on the ground leading up to where the car is. That's certainly not nitrous on the ground.

exactly, nitrous is not flammable in anyway. all it does is cool the air entering the engine and "super fuel" the combustion process with a bombardment of oxygen. im not really sure of the process, but somehow NO2 enters the engine, the O2 seperates from the N, and gives a large supply of pure oxygen. either way, NO2 isnt flammable, must have been the fuel tank.

and maybe if that asshats pants werent sagging down to his knees god wouldnt have blown up his car.

Nitrous is an oxidation agent, so true it will not combust on its own. But when you stop messing around with some 25hp Zex dry shot, and into larger shots its almost always a wet kit, so your spraying fuel into the intake manifold (which really wasn't meant to flow fuel). Big nitrous jet = big fuel jet = subpar atomization in the intake, throw in a backfire and boom!

The car was allegedly running in the tens, so baggy pants or not, I don't think the fella's an asshat.

exactly. and while it does it beautifully inside the combustion chamber you don't want that stuff anywhere near an open flame on the outside of the engine. whatever fire or explosion you would normally have is just mulitplied many times over.

I must have heard from a hundred people last weekend at the Alum Creek meet that his nitrous tank leaked and blew up :ugh: Once again NITROUS IS NOT EXPLOSIVE. My guess is the ussual, tried to spray to early and had a nitrous backfire igniting gas in the intake and blowing it apart causeing the fuel line to brake loose spraying fuel on the engine. Sucks to see this happen, cause it adds to giving Nitrous a bad name.
