that and even buying premium isnt bad when you get 24 mpg in the city and 29 on the highway

I guess I'm the odd ball. I used to put premium in my vehicle. But for a while I switched to regular. Didn't really notice that much of a difference in my gas mileage or performance for that matter. I don't think it is necessary to put premium in a 3g unless you are boosted. But that is just my 2 cents.

same here, i have used regular for a year now, and i have had no problems. I tend to use Fuel injector cleaner every 10 to 15 tanks of gas. I did use the middle one once, when i got a nice pay check, and i did see a difference, but not a big enough one to switch over.
The V6 GT was designed for premium fuel. It needs the extra octanes to prevent engine knock. It doesn't change your gas mileage, but using lower octanes will, slowly but surely, damage your engine. And unless "fuel injector cleaners" have those extra octanes in there, it's not going to stop your engine from knocking.

I've had mine for about 2 years or so. I used to fill up with only 93 octane back when I liked to do a little racing every now and then, I've since bought a turbo supra for my boost cravings .

Anyways, I never drive my car hard anymore. I drive 35miles one way to work each day, so gas mileage is a big issue. The most I've ever seen off of 93 Octane was a tad bit over 29 MPG. Since I've switched to 89 octane I've seen 32.56 MPG. No knocking, pinging, etc. I drive my car really easy knowing that I can't get on it in fear of detonating some.

Driving habits: Accelerate slowly, shift into the next gear at 2K RPMs, repeat until I'm in 5th, accelerate up to 70 MPH slowly, then set the cruise and let it do it's thing. There's nothing wrong with using 89 octane as long as you can keep your foot off the pedal ;).

My good gas mileage comes from the driving habits I've learned since I've bought my Geo metro. It is down for a rebuild right now. Once it's done the 3G is being sold off to pay for whatever's left on the bank loan.

Mods: Injen catback, Injen CAI (will probably put it into ram air configuration to see if I can get even better mileage), B&M ST shifter (hate the damn thing, I will put the old one back in if I can ever find it).

Using 87 octane will not hurt your engine one bit, and you not experience any sort of knocks, bangs, pings, or smoke by doing so either, unless your car's engine is already freeked up from beating it. I had this information confirmed by three different experience Mitsu techs. However, you will notice a slight improvement in gas mileage when you use higher octane fuel.

I've noticed the exact opposite with different octanes actually. I've gotten the best (32.5 MPG) by using 87 octane versus my 30 MPG with 93. Same driving habits too. I'm going to change over my Injen CAI in the WAI format soon to see if there's any increase in gas mileage due to the engine pulling in warmer air, causing the fuel mixture to burn a little easier....
