I won't be the last person to tell you that those tails are God-awful.

If you really want to repaint it, I would decide what colors you like on cars and go from there, and be prepared to dish out a lot of money for a "good" paintjob.

With that in mind you can decide where to go with the 3G, just browse the member's rides.

Yeah, I was thinking about painting it black-I think the taillights would look 10x better with that black around it.

Alas, I disagree. I think they look great-its the paint that needs to be changed to let the tails show their true appeal.

You are entitled to such opinions, but I all I mean is that you will be part of a very small minority.

To me it is self-evident and I don't mean to come off as a jerk. They are just ugly. I and others usually toss those tails into the same bin as big aluminum wings, half painted body kits, and various other things - Ricer is the name of that bin.

I think it's safe to say most people here don't like chrome, especially the tails, sometimes a good set of wheels will be accepted. Of course to each their own and the like. I was just prepping you for any criticism that comes your way.

But to the paint, if you want a quality job it'll be costly to get done. I'd suggest a nice set of black wheels with a polished or mirrored lip. My car was once black, well twice.

Exactly what I had in mind with the rims-black with a polished lip. I didn't want to say anything to see if I had good taste on that part :ninja2: It would compliment the chrome tails (maybe chrome headlights, too, later on) and give almost a futuristic look, maybe with the mature black paint.

That way it's not 100% black-it would be mostly black with a bit of chrome here and there. And I bet there's a story about your car being black twice :eek3:

well, thing is when you change the color of your car vs repaint the same color, you usually double the price.. or you get crap results. open your door, what color is the door jamb? ohhh body color. that means you need to take off ALL the interior that touches that spot. smae with the doors themselves, trunk, hood, enginebay... see the labor price jumping up and up? plus there is just more prep work involved. a color change means you have to paint EVERYTHING. a repaint, just means sand it down.. add some color here and there, and reclear the whole thing. WAYYY cheaper, and easier.

that said, a nice silver/smoke look to go with the color you have now would be nice. silver grill, (light) smoked turns, tails, headlights, etc.. silver wheels. and maybe a silver CF OEM hood, with the edges painted in the same color as body would look clean and classy.

i did a PhotoShop like it for someone else with the same color car a little while back:

it isn;t the greatest (especially since his wheel picture was nowhere near the right angle) but you get the idea.

scarr-Your photoshop skills have bested mine and I fully see the effect! So instead of blackout...you say silverout with a blueish hue to it (as the car is already greenish blue)? Would that be close enough to the door jams' origonal color so that it would be eaiser (and therefore, cheaper) to paint? Or would the inside still have to be redone?

Got Rice Boy-send me a PM with how much you want the headlights for and I'll definately think about it.

#20 ·
yep. any color change at all will look like ass unless you do it all. i tried it before... and all i got a was rice.
take what you have and run with it, be different, but still tasteful.

#22 ·
that color is awsome, please dont paint it black. Just repaint it the same color to fix the oxidation. if you want black, do the black 2 tone with the top half black. As for wheels, find some nice silver wheels. a polish lip would be nice too.

Change the orange turn signals to clear lens.

(the next statement is not to "bag" on you) The style of chrome taillights or better known as altezza's died years ago. Whenever seen on ANY type of car, its concidered "rice" fyi.

Maybe the finished product would look something like this? (With smoked tails, of course, since I got everybody on the site hatin' the ones I got now )

*NOTE* MADE WITH MS PAINT!!! Photoshop is unavaliable for me. I figured this would give yall the general idea of what I'm going for.

When he said just the top he meant from the A/B pillar up, not all the way down to the door handles.

The stock GT WHEELS are 17" not 18."

#29 ·
I think how you have it would look pretty terrible.

I think next I'll be touching up the paint on the hood, top, and spoiler (same color) because its oxidizing worse and worse. You can't really see from these photos, but its getting worse. Maybe afterwards I'll get black Konig Afterburner rims or something along those lines.
