after a bunch of delays and a cracked block, i have finally finished my EVO VIII swap using the stock ecu. i was able to incorporate the ecu along with the immobilizer unit.

as some of you may know, the galants lacked the 5 speed option, so i also swapped one in along with a Quaife LSD.

everything is running as a stock EVO! even my stock tach works and my OBDII port! there is nothing im missing!

i havent really run the car hard, mostly around the block because im missing some body parts (a door, hood, bumper and license plates-im getting a paint job in a few weeks) but im currently boosting 11 lbs till i break in the motor and then i'll run the typical 20-21 lbs that most evo's run.

the good thing about running the stock ECU are the safety features, convience, and ability to flash it instead of going stand alone/piggyback.

here's my current engine mod list:

Engine/Driventrain::
4g63t motor swap, (EVO VIII) AUTO to 5 speed tranny swap (Using eclipse tranny), Fidanza flywheel, ARP head bolts, cometic head gasket, ACT 2100 clutch and pressure plate, Quaife LSD, Deyeme Solid Motor mounts, Walboro 255 fuel pump10.5 turbo hotside upgrade, Greddy RS BOV, Greddy Oil Catch can, Hallman manual boost controller, AEM intake, custom engine harness, Spearco FMIC, Earl’s oil cooler, custom candy red 2.5 intercooler piping, 3in custom turbo back exhaust, HKS Carbon Ti exhaust, RMR carbon fiber spark plug cover, Zeeklee clear cam cover, Samco radiator hoses and intercooler couplings, JDM EVO VII valve cover in candy red

If you are on your stock ECU, what are you doing for fuel managmen? Or are you using the stock evo ECU? Did the cam sensor provide any problems for you? Looks impressive though and I am eager to see and hear more about your project.

well it wasnt cheap, but i did all the labor myself, including the wiring.

the motor cost me 3500 shipped (complete w/ everything) and tranny 800.
complet w/ everything meaning what? Turbo, Intercooler, Manifolds, Piping, ECU Immobilizer, etc? Sounds like a hell of a steal to me.

How hard was it to make the motor mounts work. HHMMM maybe ill do it in my eclipse instead of just a head conversion
His motor mounts are completely different than yours. You have an eclipse, he has a galant. You have a 4 cylinder, he had a 6.

Look at the Evo forums, the Evo owners swap for the 4G64 block. Find out what all they need to do to get it to work. That might help.

I don't remember anyone swapping the 4G63 into the 4G64 eclipse that posts here.

From what I have read about Stewi swap over at TheGalantCenter

The motor mounts match on the I4 eclipse/galant and the evo motor. Eclipses are built on the same platform as galants.

You can also use your current FWD tranny.

The major problem is the wiring.

I let him answer this, but I'm almost 100% sure that he had sold his V6 and bought an I4 to do this conversion.

:agreed: I know that all 4g64 engines use the same mounts, but I think you guys with the galants have more room/clearance in the engine bay. Especially between the motor and firewall. I didn't know he had sold his V6 for an I4 and that is why I assumed he would have had to do more work fabbing mounts.

i used to have a 6 cyl but i sold it and bought a 4 cyl.

what most evo owners do is swap out the '63 crank for the '64 crank, giving them roughly a 2.3 but they do keep the same block. mostly i believe because the '63 has some extra oil squirters.

i remember reading somewhere a while back that RRE had done 1 eclipse with the swap because he insisted on it. dont know what happened to it.

there's more than sufficient room in both the galants and eclipse near the firewall, the problem i see more with eclipses is the clearance in the front with the radiator..you might have to get a slim fan. also, i woulidnt even try to keep an automatic with the evo swap. you'll kill the tranny REALLY fast.

i got the swap off evolutionm.com. and yes, the wiring was the hardest part of all.;)

sweeet

im from the TGC and currenty doing the evo swap in my 8g

stewi is also giving me a hand . im at the wiring part .

i removed the entire 8 g front engine harness and began installing the evo 8 one

the only problem ive encountered so far were the interiors harness below the driver dash near the pedals , there a few harness that dont match up to the 4g64 ones .

what did you do to fix it ? , i was thinking of getting the wiring diagrams from the dealer and rewire it all

heres the link with pics
